The existence of this OVA came as a surprise to me, but I followed the series so of course I had to check it out at least. It was pretty stupid I have to say, stupid, but very fun to watch. It’s pretty much expected that an OVA for this series won’t be anything important that has anything to do with story, so the only thing that is really left is pointless stupid ecchi comedy. However, as I said, it’s very fun to watch as long as you just take it for what it is and enjoy it being stupid random comedy. Seeing all the girls in swimsuits was great indeed, and I did find it funny that the swimsuits were something that were only really associated with Saito’s world. I wouldn’t think something like that wouldn’t be in the magic world, but I suppose on some level it does make sense. The way everyone was treating them with such awe just added to the fun though.

Everyone fights against Gallia’s giant golem that tries to stop their return to Tristain.

Impressions:

This episode was pretty good. I still don’t think it’s quite as epic as the second season’s climax where Saito fights thousands of enemies, but it was still a pretty good episode. I pretty much saw this coming, that they wouldn’t resolve much. The pace the show was going was bound to leave things un-concluded in terms of information on the void users, Tifa’s power, and many other things like that door the elf was talking about. Still, looking at this season with that in mind, that it wasn’t gong to conclude everything, it was a good season and good final episode.

I’m impressed with the way they ended things. Although they left on a light note, with some comedy and the usual Saito and Louise being the way they are, Louise being tsundere, it didn’t really undo the romance. The romance scene where the two of them really talk in the room on the Ostland, and kiss, was a pretty big scene and I didn’t feel that it was undone or made any less important by the overall end, which was somewhat he case in previous seasons. I thought the actual ending was done great. Louise becoming part of the royal family was certainly a big deal. I’m not sure if it will actually make a difference in later parts of the story or series, but even if it doesn’t change much the fact she was given the title is still a big deal.

Final Thoughts:

I’m a big fan of this series, since the first season, so my opinion on this season is going to be very biased, but so what, that’s how it is. Overall as a series, all seasons, this is a very fun show. It may not be the best when it comes to maintaining seriousness in the romance or even plot, but I love watching it and in the end that’s all that really matters. I do have to say though that compared to season two, I found this season lacking a lot. The second season seemed huge. I mean, they almost got married or kind of did; there was an absolutely epic final battle where Saito fights thousands and thousands of enemies. When the OP played in a slow tune during that scene I got goosbumbps. However it seemed that although this show set up some interesting things to happen, there weren’t any huge moments like that. There were even a lot of smaller moments in season two, like the Colbert-sensei story, and this season didn’t have much of that kind of focus either, except for maybe Tabitha.

I do have to commend this season on some things though, as this wasn’t by any means horrible. I loved them bring up the topic of void users more. They made a lot bigger deal about it then the previous seasons. Before they just kind of said, “Oh yeah, Louise just has this super rare and powerful ability….so, yup.” In this season they reveal the fact that there are other void users and they make some kind of base for the history of it, or important roles void users have played in the past since the elf guy seemed to recognize the power. Although this void thing wasn’t the main focus of this season, at least it wasn’t to a degree that it could have been; it was still bought up in this season and was very interesting.

The girls attempt to distract the guards so they can infiltrate the castle and rescue Tabitha.

Impressions:

Something happened and I lost the original post. This episode was great, aside from getting to see the girls in those outfits. The elf guy revelaed some intersting plot things that I’m sure won’t be used unless this gets another season.

Everyone devises a plan to escape to Gallia without being noticed.

Impressions:

This episode was alright, however ultimately it seems like not much actually happened in it. The last episode left off with them escaping from jail, and the end of this one they were still effectively traveling to where they had to go. Although this episode wasn’t that big of a useless episode, unlike several shows have, I was just surprised considering there isn’t a lot of episode left until the end, I would think things would start to become much more fast paced by now. Now I fear that the whole issue with other void users won’t be settled this season. This season probably will end with them rescuing Tabitha, but not necessarily stopping her uncle or finding anything more out about void or Tifa’s powers, which is a bit disappointing but so long as they have another season I don’t care that much.

It seems like the even though this series is coming to a close, the next episode will contain some things just for the fun, as the preview showed the girls all doing a show. I can’t really complain, as that would be pretty interesting and fun to watch. I just hope they eventually get to some plot development.

Louise and Saito find out that Tabitha has been abducted by Gallia and set off to try and rescue her.

Impressions:

This episode was pretty good. It didn’t really have any huge major plot twists or anything, but there were several pretty meaningful events. I thought one of the really important events in this episode was Louise’s talk with Henrietta. The way she confronted her about Saito was interesting, really showing some forcefulness on Louise’s part. I also did not expect for Louise to give up her nobility for the sake of saving Tabitha. I fully expected Saito to do it, but with Louise it’s a lot bigger of something to do.

I thought the Slyphied thing was rather interesting. Although I wasn’t really surprised by it. I pretty much guessed that was the case the first time Slyphied appeared, as Irukukwu disappeared rather quickly. Although it wasn’t a surprise, it was still interesting. I’ve got to say I’ve never found a dragon that cute or hot before, kind of a weird feeling :D It’ll be interesting to see whether or not they have Slyphied transform into a human again or not. It seemed like the major purpose of this transformation was to inform everyone of what happened to Tabitha, and then to inform everyone that they had been arrested. Since Slyphied can’t really communicate that, they kind of needed a human form. Though whether or not it’s needed later is unknown, but I hope they have her transform some other time other then just when they need it.

Saito informs everyone of Tabitha’s attack, and talks with Colbert about his new ship.

Impressions:

This episode was interesting, but it mostly amounted to nothing. Their explanation of Colbert’s return was alright, but right now I don’t see a huge need for it. The biggest part of this episode was the attack on Tabitha. Another elf is pretty important, and considering how powerful he is I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of him.

It’s time for the Sleipnir Ball at the academy where the students use magic to disguise themselves.

Impressions:

This episode had great romance development in it; I was very pleased with the ending in that regard. Finally there’s an episode where something at the end doesn’t completely undo everything that has happened in the episode. Hell, Louise wasn’t even to blame for when she did get upset. He actually did kiss Henrietta and then it seemed like he was going to kiss her again when he found out who she was. Hell, he lied in a way because of that second one. I just hope that it’s not undone in the next episode, though I have a feeling it will be to some extent.

Now the ending…that was certainly surprising. I mean…Colbert being alive? What the hell is going on? It was like almost certain that he died, in fact it was one of the best episodes and arcs of the second season was when they talked about his past and had his death scene. It seems like its cheapened now because he’s alive, but his appearance certainly brings a lot of questions about other things asides form his return, like the plane. It seems weird that they just keep finding all these planes in this world, it almost makes me think Colbert somehow visited the other world, but it seems odd that he could be able to then get back. Either that or coincidently they just found another plane, which is probably what they’ll have happen.

Siesta receives a love potion that she’s pressured to use on Saito when Louise is away.

Impressions:

I thought this was a pretty good episode. It had almost no real value in the end, no big plot things except for some reveals that didn’t affect the episode itself, but it was still fun to watch. Even if it was temporary, yuri is always fun to watch. I thought it was great seeing the characters act like that.

I did find the two small things they revealed near the end interesting though. Although they didn’t’ have too big of an impact on this episode, I’m sure they’ll amount to a lot later on. First being a bit of a surprise with Tabitha being what seems to be an important character. She really was on the sidelines throughout most of this series and never really stood out. Although she had that kind of shy personality, that lent itself to not catching any attention really. The second was Tifa’s magic. It’s no big surprise that she has unique magic, as I think it’s kind of obvious she’s connected in one way or another to void magic, so the unique magic isn’t that big of a deal however at least we find out here some more details bout it. The memory erase power could be powerful but I’m not sure where it could be used effectively. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s actually used or just the fact she has it makes her special enough.

Saito and Louise get into a fight after Louise sees Saito touching Tifa.

Impressions:

This episode was pretty good, though at the end it was still slightly disappointing. I really want just once for them to have a moment like at the end of this episode, and similar moment’s they’ve had throughout this series, but not have it suddenly turn like that. This episode would have been a big BIG move forward in the relationship between Saito and Louise, yet because of some moment like that it gets reversed. It isn’t even a matter of someone’s character either. Sure Louise may be somewhat to blame for reaction like that, but moreover it’s just the situation that the show puts things in for her to see that in the first place. If they could just go one episode without doing something like that, or perhaps just to a lesser degree, it would be so much better.

The next episode looks like it will be pretty fun to watch, just from the preview it shoed Montmeracy kissing Louise so some weir thing has to be going on, liking involving a love potion. However while it looks like it’ll be fun to watch, it’s also pretty apparent that there won’t be any real plot development or relationship development with it either. I’m curious as to when they’ll get back to that. The second season seemed to have a lot more plot going on. They’ve revealed there’s something going on involving the void users but past the first two episodes or so, nothing has really been done with that.

Tifa comes to the magic academy and attracts everyone’s attention, including that of a snobby girl with a lot of power.

Impressions:

This episode was pretty interesting. Although it pretty much had nothing to do with the overall plot, I thought the basic story of some snob noble acting the way she did was interesting enough. One thing I continue to be confused about is Saito’s status. I would think a chevalier would be much more respected then to be thrown in with a bunch of seemingly average guys from the academy. I think that Saito is the only chevalier out of them but somehow is forced to be with them, which seems a little odd. I would have though things would change a bit more after him becoming so.

I thought the romance bit they had in this episode was interesting. It wasn’t really centered on showing a lot of things involving Louise and Saito together or being in some situations that may get them close, but it seemed of focus a lot, way more then other episodes, on Louise herself kind of brooding over Saito and dreaming about being with him, then showing how devastated she was when he didn’t spend time with her. This episode kind of shifted the balance a bit. Previously it really appeared to be Louise who was the one interfering with the romance due to her tsundere nature; however this episode showed that Saito is a big part of the problem too just because of how oblivious he seems to be at times.
