I thought this episode concluded a good number of episodes that were all pretty good. Although the event of Sakuya’s birthday wasn’t that impressive, the other things that occurred at this party and around it were pretty interesting. We have this big moment with Hina and Ayumu where Hina openly admits to herself and Ayumu that she loves Hayate. We have even more kind of serious talk between Hayate and Nagi about leaving one another and so on. It just seemed to have a lot.

I do have to admit I was surprised and saddened to hear that this season as ending soon. I’m horrible at actually looking up how many episodes a series will be when it starts, so I’m always surprised by its length but with this one, I had just assumed that it would be a long 52 episode run like the previous season. Hayate really has become one of my favorite shows, and even though this season lacked some of the charm the first season had by just being new, and it does seem to contain less parody type humor, it actually did a lot of things better then the first season in terms of character development and revealing things that can be considered actual overall plot and not just the single episode content. We have this whole thing with Nagi’s mother, Hayate’s family is being talked about more seriously, its revealed he has a brother, they’ve talked several times about this girlfriend he seemed to have I elementary school. Then there are things like the development between Hayate and Ayumu, Hina actually admitting to herself and Ayumu that she loves Hayate. While things like this may seem small, given that it’s obvious to the viewers the feelings of these people, for the characters themselves to realize it themselves I pretty big. All of this seemed to just really be developing and then…boom, it’ll end soon.

Hell, there’s even more! We have characters like Haru actually being introduced that seem like they could play some part later down in the road, and in this episode alone the other student council character was holding a pendant that is very much like the one Nagi’s grandfather gave to Hayate. PLUS Isumi said something a couple episodes ago about people not able to let things go, alluding to Nagi’s grandfather trying to do something to bring his daughter, Nagi’s mother, back to life. We never really got a lot of info on that pendant, but suddenly the grandfather and the pendant are hinted at, but again we get very little information. It’s just very frustrating seeing how this series has so much more to offer, yet can’t.

This latest episode of Hayate was most obviously one of the best episodes ever made! As I’ve mentioned several times in the past I’m a HUGE fan of Isumi and when they show an episode like this, it’s just absolute pure win. The episode was awesome enough when it was just Isumi in a long skirted maid outfit, but when she put on the short skirt and was doing all those maid poses like very cutely sticking out her tongue after tasting something hot, it was just beyond words. It was awesome. I still say they need a damn Isumi dakimakura or something; Hina has three for god’s sake, ISUMI NEEDS ONE! Anyways, there have been great Isumi episodes in the past, and this, seeing Isumi in a short skirted maid uniform and learning how to act as a maid ranks up there in pure awesomeness.

Aside from the fact this episode had Isumi in a maid outfit and so on I thought the joke of this episode, the way it concluded, was hilarious. Going though all of that work for him to just say it was an April Fool’s joke was great. Plus they included Haru in this episode which could tie her into the rest of the series more. She’s never really been present at all until this episode, so perhaps this will be an indicator of her having more of a
presence.

I thought this arc was quite good; it had a lot going on in it. First off it was just funny to see Maria and Nagi try and function in normal society like getting on a train. But there were some other good parts too. They had some Isumi screen time, which is always good, plus they continued with Hina’s feelings towards Hayate, Ayumu as well and the friendship between Ayumu and Hina. Then they threw in some new stuff about Nagi’s mother. It seemed like this arc just contained a lot of stuff and I’m glad to see they haven’t run out of interesting content in the second season. I was afraid there would be too many episodic kind of episodes where something isolated and crazy would happen, then get fixed. It seems like they have some actual important issues and topics they’ve brought up so far.

I did find it quite interesting when Isumi talked about how Nagi doesn’t believe in resurrection or being able to talk and bring back the dead, unlike some people. They then showed Nagi’s grandfather looking at a large picture of Nagi’s mother, so obviously it’s her mother on her grandfather’s side… Anyways, it opens up for something rather interesting. I’m curious as to whether or not her grandfather is still going to try something, like with that pendent he used on Hayate. Also, I’m quite confused and intrigued about Nagi’s….power. Isumi showed that picture Nagi drew of a spaceship. Now, did that come into being BECAUSE she drew it? I mean, the story the alien had was how every 100 years or so they came by, obviously Nagi couldn’t have seen it, and then drew it. It makes you wonder what kind of passive abilities Nagi might have as well…

I felt that I just had to say something about the latest resurgence of Trap Hayate. Although obviously not the first appearance of him, it still is hilarious and just…interesting to watch when he makes an appearance like this. However not only did he just appear for five seconds or so like in previous episodes, this whole couple episode arc is focused on him and being in trap mode which is quite unexpected, but again very….interesting.

I think one of the best parts of Hayate going into trap mode is just the reactions for pretty much very character that sees him. Everyone pretty much seems to agree he look good like that and want him to stay that way. I loved the way Nagi was just shaking telling Maria to make sure she tells Hayate that she is fine with Hayate being dressed like that. And of course Maria who is usually quite reserved gets very flustered at the site of Trap Hayate, which is fun to see. I’m sure the same response wouldn’t be had with anyone who cross-dresses, but for Hayate’s character it seems to go perfectly. There have already been several quotes this season, “What are you, a girl?” from various characters regarding Hayate’s normal look and actions, so I guess Trap Hayate fits perfectly. In any event, it makes for a very interesting episode.

As some of you may know, I am deeply in love with Isumi. She’s mine, and if anyone so much as touches her I’ll kill them, she’s mine. Anyways this episode of Hayate was one of the best episodes they’ve ever had simply because of the fact that it had such a heavy focus on Isumi. Dear god it was awesome….oh Isumi…

Not only did we simply get to see Isumi, but she wore different clothes then normal and looked super cute, far more than normal. Not only a skirt but a top that was far different than normal too. It’s not that she’s bad normally, she’s awesome normally, but as Nagi said in the preview for next episode a change of clothes seem to make things far more interesting and super cute. A Hayate episode is always made better by the presence of Isumi. ISUMI IN A SKIRT = WIN!

I felt that this recent episode was just too good to go without saying something about it. One of the main things that kind of disappointed me about the first season as how little focus they gave to Maria. It seemed that she was such an interesting character but they just sidestepped any development of her character and personality, not really giving her any more of a role then support, when she could have been more. However thankfully that seems to not be the case so far in this season. Not only did this episode give her some time near the end which seems like it’ll carry over to her being important next episode, but a couple of episodes ago she was focused on a lot too. Hayate and she talked about Valentines and such; she got quite a lot of focus then too. All in all it seems she’s getting much more focus then she was before with the previous episode, this one, and what is inevitably to come. Plus it was just pure awesome win to see her in a school uniform, and the glasses just pushed it to the top.

What’s even more, that made this episode awesome, was the huge focus on Hinagiku. While Hina has been given more attention then Maria, she still deserves a bit more and like Maria is definitely a fan favorite, at least a favorite of mine. This episode gave her a lot of very interesting focus and it looks like she’ll be getting even more in the next episode or soon after. Hayate staying over at her house is definitely a big opportunity for some more development to happen. I really do hope more does happen, but I have a feeling not a lot will. I always tend to want more romance in series like this. However the main thing about this series is comedy so the romance potential it has will most likely get sidestepped. Still, it’s nice to see Hina getting some screen time as well as Maria.

I thought this was a good start to this new season. It was pretty much what I expected it to be. It wasn’t very different from the previous season, but that’s good because I thought the first season did a lot of things really well. As long as the comedy is fresh, the method in which they do it is fine. I am curious as to how much of this episode will carry over to the next. While this series is pretty much comedy based, it’s not like some other series where each episode is completely separate, some stuff that happens does make a difference. Of course they aren’t going to change the show around too much with a big plot point like Hayate not being a butler for several episodes, but I’m sure they’ll address sit at the very beginning, if only to easily get over it. This does bring up a good point though. How much of this season will have an actual plot. There were some things for the first season that could be considered plot amongst the mostly comedy centered series. Things like the necklace Nagi’s grandfather gave him, or HImegami’s appearance had some kind of lasting affects and several episodes that would form arcs, so I’m curious as to what kind of similar things we’ll see in this season.

It does seem like they are going to introduce the nun girl that was in the Beach Special episode that was in-between the two seasons, which is nice because I had absolutely no idea who the hell she was, as I don’t have time to read manga, I’m not caught up on Hayate.

Although it seems that this is indeed a special, not episode one of the new season, it was still worth the watch. I thought it was very charming and was a perfect way to kind of get re acquainted with the series after such a long break. Featuring pretty much all of the characters, if only briefly, was pretty nice. Plus, it’s a beach episode and with swimsuits in a series like this, you can’t go wrong. I loved the quote at the beginning of the episode, “Are you ready to die from moe?” It was pretty fun to watch, but actually had surprisingly few moments where they did a close up or something of one of the girls which they did frequently in normal episodes of the first season. Hopefully there will be some more of those later.

I laughed incredibly hard when Hayate walked in on Ayumu talking to herself, fantasizing about what Hayate would say to her. It was a perfect scene. However, Isumi is of course still my favorite. I’m glad they had her get lost in this episode, as that’s just one of the best things about her character. But, I’ve ranted for a whole post on her, if you want to see it check out the character profiles. They did a good job at showcasing some of the unique things about the other characters too, and I’m glad they did that.
