Jil continues to try and fight against Druaga on the top floor of the tower.

Impressions:

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?! I had no idea this series was going to have a sequel so I was under the assumption it was going to end with this episode. However not only does it turn out it has a sequel, they don’t conclude anything in this season and they leave things off with the biggest cliffhanger they’ve had throughout the entire show. My mouth was just left hanging open at this ending. They sure as hell better end up releasing that sequel season as this season is crap if it’s not concluded sometime. This series relied heavily on the ending because so much of the great character development and plot started to get revealed. I really want to know what happens now. Not only that but they revealed new things in addition to the cliffhanger which brings even more mystery to everything. In addition to the cliffhanger of Neeba and Kaaya leaving off together, it seems Pazuz still isn’t dead and is taking orders from someone else, a loli or something. Plus Gilgamesh still seems to be a big part of this, as not only did he kill some people for some seemingly unknown reason but he has the blue crystal rod, which questions what Kaaya and Neeba are doing or going for in this other tower.

It does seem like they revealed more about the two colored ghosts. The blue one seems to be or used to be Druaga’s woman, so what happened to her is a bit a mystery. It seems to fit that Ki, the red one, was connected to Gilgamesh and was his love, yet something unknown happened to her as well, yet not before something involving Kaaya happened. Either she is a daughter or granddaughter or it’s more complicated like a clone or reincarnation.

Final Words:

This certainly was an interesting series. Starting out with one of the funniest episodes I’ve ever seen in a first episode, then going into some serious focus, and then occasionally going into pure comedy mode, then serious again. Although it seems like it wouldn’t work at all to have a switch like that between comedy and action, it worked surprisingly well for this show, and I have to compliment it on that. The comedy parts really were pretty good. I think part of what made the comedy work so well in an otherwise action oriented series that that it was purposely just over the top. They didn’t’ try and do a lot of subtle jokes or anything. At times they would just go into full blown ridiculous situations like the ever changing physical appearance or doing some crazy ridiculous dance. The comedy wasn’t really needed. In fact the show would have worked fine without it, but commendably it didn’t seem to take anything away from the show either.

I really was surprised at how good the rest of the plot was compared to the comedy. After the first episode being so good it really seemed as if this show would be better if it was pure comedy. While the show didn’t have absolutely breathtaking or outstanding episodes all the way though, when it reached the end there were several interesting plot devices still in the air that all came together rather interestingly. It wasn’t just the big plot of climbing to the top of the tower that was so interesting, but it was also some of the character histories and motivations that made it what it was. What the hell happened in Neeba’s past, how will Jil’s lack of motivation affect things, what is Kaaya’s connection to…blah blah blah. Things like that were what made the show interesting in the end and I’m impressed with the amount of those plot devices.

Still, all of this is pretty meaningless considering that it left off with such a huge cliffhanger. Although the comedy in this series was good I hope there is less of it in the next one just because there are so many unanswered questions.

Everyone who made it to the top floor of the tower tries to figure out what to do when they come face to face with the giant Druaga.

Impressions:

This episode was pretty good. It had some really big parts, like Ahmey dying which completely shocked me. In a way it was good because she got to meet up with the man she loved, and if anyone is to die and have it be a somewhat of a good thing, it would be her. Still, it sucked that she died. However I have to commend the show for doing it. Even though it has had its comedy bits and some rather fluff episodes, having a character die like that makes it all the more serious, which is great. I’m curious as to what the hell it is exactly that Kaaya has. There are also a lot of questions that need to be answered. I’m surprised there is only one more episode left considering what all they need to explain. Both ghosts, Kaaya’s past with Gilgamesh and connection to one of the ghosts, Neeba’s connection to other ghost, and so on. Either they will do a quick job explaining it or they will defeat Druaga early on.

I was a bit surprised that Pazuz didn’t do more. Usually someone like him ends up causing things to be worse for everyone else. While he kind of did that when he distracted Neeba from using the arrows, I still thought he would do more. Nothing at all became of the coffins he was carrying, which seemed to be a pretty big and important thing since Kally died over them. I can only assume it was some kind of necromancy he was planning on doing. Still, it seemed odd that he didn’t at least activate them and then die; it seems as if he died before they did anything. Still, it was pretty cool the way Neeba killed him.

The remaining groups of climbers battle against the severe cold to get to the top of the tower.

Impressions:

This episode was very interesting. There were a lot of things that just added onto the big pile of mystery this show has. Now we find out these two ghosts we’ve been seeing know each other and almost seem to fulfill a role together. Plus we have what seems to be a set number of people allowed on the top floor, which was reached, and kind of means everyone else and even those who made it, are screwed since the Summer of Anu is over.

I do have to say, although it wasn’t a huge part of this episode, I feel incredibly sorry for Fatina. Even though she likes Neeba and got a kiss from him, it seems completely true that Neeba has absolutely no interest in her and is just using her. The only reason he gave her the kiss was to motivate her or to get her to work harder for him. He is completely using her and she doesn’t know, so I feel pretty bad for her.

I think the most interesting part of this episode, and really one of the more interesting points in the entire series, is this big focus on Jil’s motivation. Neeba seemed to think pretty strongly of the fact that he has no goal and that because of that he would be endangering others. It does seem like he doesn’t have a definite plan. It really seems to be affecting Kaaya’s view on him too, the fact that she really demanded to know what his plans were. I’m curious to see what problems this will cause later on.

The groups of climbers all get separated and must pair up with others from different groups.

Impressions:

Wow, this episode was surprisingly big. I didn’t think a lot would really happen but it did. Although it’s not like everyone made a lot of progress distance wise there was the big event of Kally dying which seemed pretty damn big to me. Although it’s not quite the same as it would have been if someone in Jil’s group died, but it’s still a fairly big event. However I think one of the best parts of this episode was that they gave background stories to almost half of the characters, things we previously didn’t’ know at all. They revealed that Jil had a father who seemed to die and was labeled a deserter, which he doesn’t seem too thrilled about or even believe that’s what happened. We have Melt who was revealed to have some kind of falling out with other mages at the royal palace and that he used to be a lot more known and respected. Then there is Ahmey who we find out not only used to be in the Uruk army, but loved a guy, who proposed to her, and she turned him down due to lack of self confidence pretty much only to have that guy then die. All of those were thrown into one episode, that was pretty big. Not to mention the mystery behind what the hell the caskets are that the evil guy is carrying.

The other rather big part of this seemed to be Kaaya and Neeba’s talk. First of all Neeba seemed pretty sure Jil would be useless later on. It came off to me like he was talking more then just him maybe not having the strength, like there was something more to it. He also seemed to talk about either him deserting people or everyone else deserting him due to his weakness. Plus that ghost girl seemed to talk to her saying that she was sure that Kaaya would be the one to betray Jil. Which seems odd, first of all why the hell does she know this. However it does fit with the last episode revealing of Jil running into three betrayals.

Impressions:

Wow…this episode was….odd. At first it seemed like it was mainly a comedy episode and I guess for the most part that’s indeed what it was. It was one of the episodes that was pretty much just humor and it had some really weird things in it that were pretty funny. For a pure comedy episode it was pretty good. It wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t bad. It was pretty funny. However it was really odd because that’s not all it was. At the very end there was a huge amount of overall plot revealed. More then any other episode has revealed so far which seems a bit odd for an otherwise comedy only episode. However it was still interesting and brought up several questions regardless.

The first question this episode brought up is what exactly that tower thing is. It seemed like it was almost just a game, however that means it can’t be the actual real tower that Gil climbed, I think. Whatever it was, it was important enough despite being a game that when Jil got to the top and awakened some kind of version of Kaaya, like an ancestor or something that everyone noticed it even people that weren’t in the tower, like Gilgamesh. Hell, he seemed to know exactly what was going on too. Another question is what the hell was this person talking about when she mentioned three betrayals? Well, ok I guess that’s not cryptic, three people will betray him, but who and how I’m really interested in. For a comedy episode, this episode had more questions and mysterious revealed about the overall plot then all other episodes combined, it was certainly interesting.

Jil tries to rally all the climbers together to help in an attack the Uruk army is making against a dragon that stands in the way.

Impressions:

I thought this episode was pretty good. It was one of the better non-comedy episodes that the show has had. Even without any of the overall plot elements it was interesting enough just seeing the struggle to take down the dragon. Although it wasn’t comedy only centered, it was still pretty funny when they were more or less tricking everyone into helping them take part in the dragon kill, the way Kaaya was flirting people into it and everything the others were doing was great.

One of the more interesting things in this series I think is Neeba’s past. They brought it up before when they showed that weird dead/ghost/glowing woman and I think they will continue to bring it up without actually concluding much until the end. It’s actually one of the more interesting parts of the entire series right now. The climb to the top is rather superficial it seems while Neeba’s past seems like it has a lot more depth to it. I do hope that they reveal other parts of the story that are similar to Neeba’s past, like what’s up with Kaaya and Gilgamesh, because without them the series may be rather pointless in the end.

Jil’s group stops at a village in the tower on their way though and run into some trouble when Jil’s wallet is stolen.

Impressions:

I wasn’t too impressed with this episode. This series has had great episodes that focus either on comedy or seriousness. It seems that this episode fits into the realm of the series episodes, however not only did it not seem to have very many meaningful serious moments, it just seemed off. I just wasn’t impressed with it. It seemed like a big waste of time. Its not that it was outright bad. The episode itself wasn’t bad, it just seemed like it didn’t really mean anything. The thing that kind of sucks though is I see this kind of episode as being the kind that will show up quite frequently. It seems like this show won’t focus on anything incredibly super serious for a long time and the pure comedy episodes seem to be spread fairly far apart. I just hope the show can keep interesting while they continue through the tower. It has the potential for some great stuff, but I don’t see that great stuff being the only thing we see.

On a bit of a better note I did like the focus on Coopa. Even disregarding that she’s a loli and I always seem to like the loli character, she is a good character for other reasons. She is great because while she’s a loli and shows some very loli like behaviors she also seems to be the most mature one out of the group. Its funny to see both of those things form her and makes her quite the interesting character. However with this episode they didn’t really hint at something serious in her past so I doubt she’ll get a big focus of attention even later down the road.

Jil and his group make their way though and past several bizarre humorous traps set by an insane magician long ago.

Impressions:

This episode was great. It seems like the kind of big comedy focus the first episode had wasn’t a one time thing. I found this entire episode to be just hilarious. All the different traps were great, the interaction between the group members, and the performance thing at the end. This was a great episode. It seems that this show doesn’t really have a hard time mixing some great comedy with some more serious action parts. The traps were great. I loved the gender swap thing and the way Melt and Jil were acting. Some of the other ones like the Coopa trap was good too.

There wasn’t much more to this episode except comedy. It was pretty much just them going though a bunch of humorous traps, nothing serious, nothing mysterious revealed, and so on. I do think that we’ll see future episodes like this one as well as some small comedy moments in episodes that aren’t purely comedy centered, but asides fort he comedy this episode didn’t have that much else.

Jil’s party tries to fight against the monsters of the tower, but begin struggling on only their first day.

Impressions:

This episode wasn’t too bad. It didn’t really offer anything huge or epic, but it wasn’t useless either. It seems like it has a steady pace going, now that they are actually in the tower and all. I’m sure for a long time we will see episodes that are somewhat identical to this one. Even so, as long as it is somewhat interesting I don’t think I’ll mind if it has bits of repetition, as it was interesting and fun to watch the party kind of grow in strength and experience. It is very reminiscent of an RPG and being a fan of those games, this is fun to watch.

Of course, every episode so far seems to like to throw in mysteries that make characters more interesting. This episode it was Neeba and the weird ghost girl. I’m sure they won’t actually explain what the hell that was about until near the very end of the series, but it’ll keep me wondering now. It seems like the two of them were rather close, and I’m kind of guessing she’s dead and it’s a ghost talking to him. It may have something to do with her comment that Neeba doesn’t care if his party members live or die. Perhaps she was his party member before and died.

Jil escapes form the castle after witnessing the assassination of Gilgamesh only to find out later that he is fine.

Impressions:

I definitely think this show is getting more interesting. Although it has pretty much been decided that the show won’t be weird and humor only like the first episode. However with the way it’s playing out I find it very interesting. It seems to have the good makings of an interesting fantasy anime, and there aren’t too many serious fantasy anime that are good.

I am curious as to what Ishara’s, the oracle, relationship to Gilgamesh is. They obviously knew each other, and even more she seemed to know something about some higher going ons that were happening. Gilgamesh held her face as if they were close, so maybe a father or grandfather or something even more complicated. Hell, I’m almost thinking she was with Gilgamesh when he defeated Druaga. Although it seemed like it was Jil in the dream with her, it was most probably Gilgamesh, as she did call him “Gil” Still, whether or not the girl is her or her mother is uncertain. I’m thinking its her, which disappoints me only because it makes the chance of romance between Jil and her much less, plus for some reason she hasn’t aged. Regardless of what it is I’m sure we’ll see more things relating to it.

I love the loli and mage…but not really in the same way of course. I think the mage guy is just pretty cool. He seems powerful yet at the same time is lazy and apathetic, and it seems all he cares about are the ladies. It does seem like he’ll have some great humor moments in the show. His chemistry with the loli is great too. The way she keeps scolding him is great. Plus the loli is extremely cute herself. I’m not sure if she actually does anything aside from carry the mage’s wands, but regardless she’s cute and that’s all that matters.
