Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu – The Darkness of Change

The life of a King can be a painful one.

Impressions:

I thought this series would be pure comedy, but it truly is turning into a great fantasy anime. They do make jokes about things, but can get incredibly serious when the time is right for it. Fiole’s death really caught me off guard since he was just so alive in the first half of the latest episode and then very dead in the second half. It just seemed like he would be a very strong part of the show as someone Sion helped and would in turn support Sion. It goes to show that trying to change a country puts everything close to you at risk. Hopefully they can safeguard Fiole’s sister so this tragedy isn’t repeated. Still Sion’s life is a pretty dangerous one with Ferris’s brother ready to kill him if he shows weakness and Miran’s offer to assist him. I don’t envy Sion’s position in trying to change this country with so much danger around him.

This series could turn out very dark from how things are currently going. I expected Kiefer to be a spy, but I didn’t expect the massacre that resulted. Everyone but Sion, Kiefer, and Ryner all being killed was pretty brutal. It was literally only those three since they forced Ryner to lose control and he massacred the attackers himself. I can certainly see how users of Alpha Stigma would be treated as monsters if that dark side is inherit to the ability. Sadly things just didn’t get better with Ryner in jail for years and Sion living with the darkness he currently has. Hard to say when Kiefer will come back into the story since she’s gone on a journey of her own.

I’m enjoying the series since it seems they are doing a good job building up this world. We’ll see how things turn out since this isn’t the kind of show where things just work out because of good intentions.

  1. One of the good things about this anime is its ability to blend comedy and… less comedic stuff together. You have Ryner and Ferris talking about random crap and then Fiole gets murdered – and it doesn’t seem out of place at all for some reason. You have Iris showing that she’s EPIC AWESOME and then it cuts to Sion talking to Miran all dramatically – and it still works.

It is a great thing when a series can blend these two things well. Usually comedy and serious drama can take away from each other, but so far they are doing a good job at avoiding that. Have to agree that Iris certainly is “EPIC AWESOME”. That was one heck of an entrance.
