I’m Back From My Absence – Posts To Come Soon – Convention Report

Well hello everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to post anything but I have a good reason and I want to share that with everyone, and let you know things will be back on track very soon. See I was quite busy these past two weeks, mainly the first week and the weekend, and this last week I was just recovering from. What was I busy with you may ask? Well that’s a good question, yet kind of stupid because I just told you I was going to tell you about it.

I was busy planning and running a convention. No, this doesn’t mean I went to a convention over the weekend and had to figure out rides and stuff like that, this means I was on staff, and in charge of a large portion of a convention. The convention was called ConStellation and it was the first year that we did it. We had about 150 people there, which was great as we budgeted and planned for getting about 100. See, I was the Head of Programming for the convention. Which pretty much boiled down to being in charge of literally everything that went in to planning the convention, and then at the convention making sure that was going alright. I had to come up with what panels we would have, come up with the schedule for them, and all that fun stuff. I was pretty much second in command of the convention, so it was a lot of work and is why I haven’t posted anything in a while.

I will be posting soon, the convention was more than a week ago, the weekend of Apr 16-18 so that’s why I was busy the weeks before it, and after I had to catch up on some other stuff but I’m back now.

A few quick words about the convention though, overall…it was awesome. I had a lot of fun doing it, even though I was busy a lot of the time; I had a blast doing it. It was a convention that was focused on a combination of Anime, SciFi, and Gaming so it wasn’t really an Anime convention, as some of the SciFi and Gaming focuses took some focus. I was in charge of programming though so I did throw in several anime panels and I was in charge of the video rooms as well. We had one for SciFi shows and another dedicated Anime Room which I ran and came up with what we were showing. So the anime being shown was great anime, because I picked it out :D There were quite a few people constantly watching the anime video room so I thought that was great. There were a lot of panels that were a HUGE success and extremely popular, so whoever came up with them and found people to run them must have been a great person……….Some of the more interesting panels we had were “How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse”, “So You Want To Be An Evil Overlord?”, and “YouTube a WTF Tribute”

The guests we had were definitely again on the side of a SciFi convention. We had an Author Guest of Honor, Brandon Sanderson who has taken over writing the Wheel of Time series among other books, and our Art Guests of Honor were Frank and Brianna Wu, Hugo Award winning artists. We also had Patrick Kennedy as a Fan Guest of Honor who has done a lot of fan contribution to conventions in the past in the area.

Again, overall it was a lot of fun. The really hectic parts mainly came at the beginning when we were getting everyone set up, but eventually things settled down and I was able to spend some time just sitting down, eating a TON of snacks that we had available to all, and watch some great anime until someone came to get me to figure something out.

Again though, this means I will soon make a major update of backlogged posts and be up on current shows soon.

  1. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. I bet the Zombie Apocalypse panel was pretty interesting. Plus always good to know what to do in that situation :).
