Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood – 13

Al is kidnapped and Ed must fight Greed in a dangerous battle.

Impressions:

I feel for poor Al getting kidnapped even though he did put up a pretty good fight. Just hard to deal with someone that could slip into him like that. There is just some very odd thing about a woman going inside a suit of armour that has the soul of a guy attached….Anyways can’t really blame Al for not winning when it was a trap from the start and he doesn’t have the same abilities as Ed or Izumi.

Of course Ed made that situation all the more dramatic when he just charged onto the scene and got the fighting started. In reality he probably could have settled things a bit more peacefully but decided to push for brute force. I guess after you kidnap his little brother negotiations go right out the window. It almost made him pay the ultimate price though since Greed is a very powerful opponent to go against. He’ll apparently need repairs to his automail sooner than I had originally expected. If it wasn’t Ed or Izumi then winning against Greed might be impossible. His armour is incredibly thick and the ability to perform alchemy without the transmutation circle is key.

I think the creation of homunculus is actually a relief rather than a surprise for people. It finally gives some answers as to the bizarre abilities we’ve seen before. Whether it being extending fingers or transformations those abilities seemed far beyond what should be possible. If Greed was created a couple of hundred years ago you have to wonder who was responsible. Funny that the books that Ed and Al read that said you shouldn’t make homunculus would have likely been written long after Greed’s creation. There are others out there and we don’t know when they were made either.

Of course we have the question of what the heck is going on within the military. If they are capable of creating such advance chimeras what was the point of letting Tucker do his research? His results with Nina and his wife were garbage compared to those people working with Greed. They all look human but at the same time they clearly aren’t. Plus it seems Greed isn’t connected with the military or the others that attacked Ed. There are more factions out there and the picture isn’t clear.

It seems that Roy is moving on to Central and his goals are being advanced. Taking along some loyal people is a pretty good move. There is clearly a dangerous force within the military and if Roy wants to reach the top he’ll need people around him that can be relied on in a pinch. Investigating the murder and reaching the top is going to be a very tough thing to accomplish.

Anyways onto the next episode to see how the fight is resolved.
