Zelgadis takes the jar and attempts to get answers from Rezo.

Impressions:

Now this was probably the best episode of Evolution-R. Its probably not a coincidence that the episode was about Zelgadis and not comedy. We finally got some answers about what happened to Pokota’s home and especially got to see a flashback of Zel’s life before things took a turn for the worse. They pretty much hit us with a ton of information and there is probably still more to this that we will learn in the next episode.

I’m really not surprised that Zel did all of that. He has fought and worked hard through all the seasons to try and find a way to turn his body back to normal. I have to give Lina credit since she pretty much let Zel do what he wanted. She had faith in him and cared enough to not interfere in what was so important to Zel.

It shows how much of a betrayal Zel felt because he trusted Rezo so much. First his body was changed and then he found out it was just another experiment for Rezo. Really it didn’t surprise me since the first season of Slayers made it clear that Rezo was experimenting with chimeras. I’m surprised that Zel didn’t toss him into the depths of the sea. This is a guy who should not be brought back to life. He was willing to resurrect Shabranigdu just so his eyes would be open. Sure he had the idea of using Zanifar to kill Shabranigdu, but that doesn’t change that he was willing to put the world in danger for his own sake. Honestly I’d like them to bring Rezo back so Zel can kill him once and for all. Maybe pure evil doesn’t exist, but Rezo is a twisted individual who is dangerous.

Will admit I never thought Rezo would go so far as to create a plague just so he could use a town for his experiments. It really shouldn’t surprise me since he was willing to petrify an entire village if Lina and company didn’t give him the Philospher’s Stone. Think Pokota has snapped worse than Zel with the news. He’s another case of someone who has had their faith in Rezo completely shattered. I don’t blame him for being willing to sacrifice his body to save his village. At the same time letting Rezo come back is a dangerous thing to do. If they let it happen they might not be able to stop Rezo if he does something drastic.

Anyways we are really heading toward a very intense conclusion. I do feel a lot of sympathy for Zelgadis because he is my favourite character. Just don’t know how this is all going to finish. The presence of Xellos is hanging over this and there is a lot more to it than just bringing Rezo back to life. Just a gut feeling, but do think that Shabranigdu might be connected to this as well. It should be a pretty good finish even if the series hasn’t been incredible overall.
