HOLY SHIT! This….this was….
Wow….
I was literally out of breath after watching this episode. Think about that for a bit…out of breath. The scene in this episode with Yuuko talking about all these things that have happened to her was just so engrossing and captivating I was drawn in. You know when something shocking happens and you take a bit of a gasp. Well this was that feeling that lasted for half of the episode almost. I was stuck on that end of gasp moment where you don’t’ breathe for a long time, taking very little breaths that I was out of breath after it. I thought it was absolutely amazing.
I’m really concerned for what is going to happen now. I mean, this moment was effectively a climax to the Yuuko arc, with so many questions remaining there can easily be almost another climax or a very interesting and rough ride down from said climax. I am VERY suspicious of Yuuko’s physical existence in the present. I mean, we saw her actually disappear into nothing but feathers when she was talking to Kei in the present. This show isn’t heavy on supernatural aspects so that’s a very suspicious thing. Tying that with the numerous other times she seems to appear out of nowhere, know the situation exactly, and offer almost profound advice I really think she is effectively dead, an angel or something similar.
I’m really at a lose as to what can happen from now on. The way this event happened it’s not exactly like Yuuko and Himura can just start a happy relationship. Hell, as we see in the present Himura is very cynical, which seems to be a result of this event. Putting aside Mizuki and Kuze, I don’t see what can really happen now other then finding out if Yuuko is alive in the present and if not how she died. Although that’s a big thing to cover, the whole relationship possibilities with Himura or anything of the sort have pretty much been permanently just stopped with this event, no possibilities at all now.
One big question I want answered, involving Himura, is how he got connected to the Shindou twins. Himura obviously knows Chihiro pre-accident, as when Chihiro woke up after being unconscious for 13 or more hours, she recognized him instantly. We have yet to see any hint of being connected to them post this event and I don’t think he is blood related to them. My best guess is that he adopted them as orphans kind of to avoid what happened to Yuuko happening to others by taking care of them himself but even if that is the case its such an important event in Himura’s life that I want it to be elaborated on.

Been a bit since I saw this but that first reaction was pretty similar. This episode was just huge. Not sure if its the climax or just a huge point along the way. I mean finding out something this terrible just after Himura decides how he feels about Yuuko. That teacher is one of the worst human beings I’ve seen in anime. There is really one I dislike more than him and there is good reason for that. To adopt a kid and then to abuse her in such fashion….
I’m still wondering about Yuuko’s sitution. Honestly I never doubted she was a spirit of some sort in the first season. Of course now I don’t want her to be since that would mean Yuuko dies sometime during melodies. Honestly its just a tragic series on a level beyond the first season. I mean sure there were bad things happening in that series. Chihiro’s situation is hardly a nice one and you knew that one of Kei or Miyako was going to get hurt. But it seems pretty likely a person in the relationship this time is actually going to die. Kuze has no hope of survival and Yuuko isn’t having great chances. Of course best case there is some sort of out of body spirit travelling while Yuuko is in a coma. When a coma is the best case scenario your in deep trouble.
Do wonder when Yuu will meet Chihiro. I agree he has to know her to a good degree for her to be comfortable around him after sleeping for 13 hours. Not to mention he has to be trusted pretty well for Chihiro to be left with him. Definitely feels odd that Himura and that damn teacher actually said simliar things. When Renji was getting closer to Chihiro Yuu warned him to prepare himself and he got the same warning about Yuuko.
Look forward to finding out more about that last part.
I had been waiting so long for your opinion about this one – I see that you’re as amazed as me (I watched last scenes four or five times after first seeing it – it’s sad but it’s also a masterpiece)
Indeed I know I’m quite behind, but I’m going to get caught up soon.
The only way I can see Chihiro knowing Yuu is from Nagi. Yuu knows Nagi, Nagi is the older sister of Hiro, and Hiro knows the twins.
