Clannad ~After Story~ – 07

Tomoya, Nagisa, and Sunohara try to help out Yuki.

Impressions:

Again, like the Misae arc, this episode and arc is much better then I anticipated. Both Misae and Yuki are two characters that are seemingly so unimportant the show wouldn’t change at all if they weren’t in it, yet both of them seem to be producing very interesting arcs, as this one seems to be headed to a bit of a dark or more serious conclusion.

I thought it was interesting the look Tomoya had when they mentioned that people, effectively like him, who were at odds with their parents, ended up here. I was surprised that they didn’t actually take that further, as from the flow of things it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the topic of the next episode either. However his falling out with his dad is a pretty damn big issue that could have extreme consequences they have yet to really show.

On somewhat of a separate not I have to exclaim…What is up with this damn robot and girl thing. It’s obvious that it’s important, as they’ve been showing it throughout both seasons. There seems to be two real possibilities. Either the whole thing is a giant metaphor, its some fairytale being read by future characters or these characters in the future that kind of relate to the events of life and time that the series shows or in some way there is this world that has ended. It wouldn’t be the first supernatural thing for this series to do. The thing that is really drawing me in about this is that they haven’t even hinted one way or another what the case is. It seems like something that is vitally important seeing how mysterious it is and that it appears very frequently yet its not a very obvious metaphor, as this episode’s bit about going to a different place despite winter coming doesn’t really relate a lot to dealing with family ties and violence. I’m looking forward to finding out more about it, but I’m not hopeful of the answer coming anytime before the very final arc, if even that.

"If perhaps this town has the same will as that of the people’s hearts, and if we should bring happiness to those who live in this town, if such feelings should exist, then perhaps the town brought about this miracle."
