Takumi stumbles onto a bizarre and dangerous situation.
At last the first episode of the third series I’m fully blogging this season. Wasn’t all that sure what I was going to be getting into, but the first episode was interesting enough to continue. Don’t think I’ve seen a lead as pathetic as Takumi in a while. Definitely takes things to a level very few can match. He is living inside a cargo container on a roof with all his anime stuff inside. Has an incredible amount of figurines, magazines, CDs, and pop stored in there. After watching him I poured a glass of juice just to stay back a bit. Guy is pretty gone in terms of his mental state. Major delusions with a heroine from an anime he is following. His imagination honestly makes it tough to know what is completely real or not.
Can’t imagine his mind will be any more stable with how things are progressing. Meets someone by the name of ‘Commander’ in a chatroom and gets pictures of a murder that hasn’t happened yet….Now what that means is beyond me, but either the images were his imagination or the murder scene was. Though that seems less than likely since he did have one of the crosses from the scene in his room later. Whole thing is pretty tough to make a call on this early in the series. The pink haired girl from the scene is pretty mysterious as well. Not often you see a young girl covered in blood being that calm. Whether she was really there or a delusion is again in question. Really after watching Higurashi I’m not going to take much at face value in this kind of series.
I’m also curious about Yua (blond with glasses) who had prominence in the second half of this episode. Obviously the scary face and charging at Takumi with a cross was just a delusion. But whether she is as innocent as she appears so far is something to keep an eye on. Definitely appeared into anime like Takumi and if she is not a crazy killer it would be good for him to have some human connections. Guy really hangs back in class (even something I can understand) and doesn’t interact all that much even with his sister.
Overall thought it was a pretty interesting first episode. A lot happened, but the episode did a good job bringing you into things. Someone died after all in the first episode so that sets the tone fairly well. Whether Takumi completely loses it or gets stronger will be the thing to watch here.
