Well seems clear why the father was so determined to have Irie go to the big schools, etc. Probably expected his son to take over the company and never worried about what Irie might want to do with his life. Might have helped in regards to Irie not having anything in mind for himself. Did go into the business area in college so probably was just going along with the flow. Then Kotoko made a big impact along with what happened to Yuuki. So Irie decides on a path for his life.

Makes sense why Irie didn't want to have his parents find out about switching to medical until he pulled it off. The father probably had issues with Irie's behaviour before but this just made him go overboard and have a heart attack.

Maybe the marriage interview is related to the attack? The head of the household almost died and they are trying to get some future security? Of course we don't expect anything long term to come from this. But should create an interesting situation for Kotoko and Irie.

In terms of the future the father may have to turn to Yuuki in regards to taking over the company. He's a pretty sharp kid and could probably handle it. Anyways I think Yuuki saw his brother kiss Kotoko while she was sleeping. Obviously the guy can't show those kinds of feelings when she is awake without it having a teasing purpose. Possible that Yuuki did something, but I'm just not sure about him kissing Kotoko.

Maybe Irie's role as successor to his dad's company was never raised because it never really mattered until he actually came up with something he wanted to do? Or maybe it's bad writing, but I don't like to rush to judgement . . .
