Special A ~S.A.~ - 08

The S.A. all goes on a vacation to Hawaii, but problems arise.

Impressions:

This episode was alright, but for the most part I was a bit disappointed. It had a lot of potential to be really good since it followed an episode that dealt a lot with the big romantic revelation. However they didn’t really go off that momentum and kind of slowed down. Not only that but I just felt that they handled Chihiro really odd. I was unsure of what the hell was going on with him. At first it seemed he was lonely, and then it seemed like he wasn’t, then he seemed fine with Hikari, then not, then he was fine with Hikari then he lashed out at others. He seemed to jump all over the place. I could forgive the episode for not having any romance or anything if it was good at being fluff, but it wasn’t even that.

I’d say the best part of this episode was the end. I don’t’ mean that to say that it was good that it was over, but bringing Yahiro back into the picture at the end like that and seemingly plotting something more will hopefully make this a lot more interesting. For the most part this episode wasn’t great but I’ll forgive that a bit if it turns out to lead to something great in the next episode. Right now the only potential left for the show is in some of the more serious romance. They did a horrible job with the opportunity they had earlier so hopefully they don’t waste it again.

I’ve been reading your blog comments for both this anime, ef and d. gray man. Keep up the good work! For this episode I agree with you. Its about time we get to some romance, some change in the situation between our main characters. I’d rather have them both acknowledge their feelings and dance around in a “will they/ will they not get together” situation than have Hikari act so clueless and stupid to what’s going on around her… I mean, it happens with females in real life (trust me, been there) but how many more episodes must we watch of her thinking of only being rivals??? This IS a romance anime is it not?

I have to say that I fell really bad for Kei. He’s fallen into a pretty deep funk after what happened at the end of the last episode. He got shot down before he even had a chance to directly confess to her.

I don’t really think that Hikari is dense. I think that she is just so incredibly stubborn that she refuses to accept that her greatest rival could have feelings for her. She won’t believe it therefore it can’t be true. Denial to the power of denial.

It also doesn’t help that Kei keeps egging Hikari on with all of those contests. If he doesn’t stop acting the part of the rival that Hikari wants him to be, then she will never see him in any other light. He needs to tell her how he feels, even if it doesn’t seem like she will understand. As it stands now, Kei has a new rival in Yahiro. He needs to act soon.
