Tsukune is questioned by the Public Safety Commission as to whether or not he’s a human.

Impressions:
Wow, this was a HUGE episode. Tsukune really seems to be absolutely completely fucked. Even if somehow the execution is stopped and if somehow Moka is freed and by Tsukune’s side, hell even if they had all the other girls by their side, they are still screwed. Not even mentioning the Public Safely group but the fact the whole school has this deep of a hate and prejudice against humans, Tsukune is totally screwed. The only way I see this show having any possible slightly happy ending is if somehow some speech is made that causes the whole school to realize something. However for something like that to happen seems like quite a stretch as a discrimination and prejudice that big is not changed permanently by one speech. However I’m sure it will be portrayed that way. However I’m not really hoping for this show to be the utmost epitome of quality, so as long as they do have that kind of happy ending, it’ll be bearable.
I have to say that I am beyond pissed off, disappointed, and ashamed of Kurumu and Mizore. For them to react like that really puts them as horrible individuals in my opinion. I would think that especially after being friends with Tsukune it wouldn’t matter to them, but they are one of the worst kinds of scum imaginable. I’m sure the show will probably have them realize its fine, but for them to have reacted that way in the first place is still horrible. They could easily have made a quick self realization about it mattering or not, how he is still himself, but they didn’t and I really am extremely disappointed in their characters. At least Yukari seemed concerned about Tsukune, wanting to save him. She doesn’t seem to care that much at all; she’s the only good character out of the three side character girls now. I just hope they really focus that Kurumu and Mizore realize something BEFORE a big realization. If they are swayed by whatever sways the whole school, because I’m sure something has to or they are totally screwed, then it will be ok but if they are swayed by the same thing that sways the masses, I’ll still be extremely disappointed in their characters.
Honestly found it hard to be that upset at either Kurumu or Mizore in terms of reactions. Sure we got Moka’s background, but honestly what do we know about either of them and issues with humans?
Maybe another thing has to do with trust. After all they went through together and the friendship they believed in. Even so they weren’t trusted enough with the truth. The school rule thing is flimsy on that. Each of them knew what the other was except for Moka’s sole knowledge about Tsukune. Maybe a sense of betrayal from both of them. The fact they had to find out from an interrogation is a painful shot. It’s not like Tsukune didn’t have opportunities to say anything before things got to this point.
Adding in from both sides has to be serious issues on how they see the other. Humans raised up with terror stories of youkai and what they will do to people. Stories about having to stop the evil monsters, etc. No clue what kind of stories are going the other way. Witch hunts in history, most likely plenty of cases with youkai vs human conflicts, the fact that youkai have to hide their identities is a reflection of that.
This is an extremely shocking thing to find out about someone you thought you knew. Maybe something like during the Cold War era and suddenly finding out your best friend is a communist. Certainly being communist didn’t automatically mean you wanted the USSR to win the Cold War or that you were planning on betraying your country. But it’s that kind of shocking discovery that people can’t simply shrug off right at that moment.
It’s not like Tsukune in 30 seconds after finding things out was “oh youkai, cool I have absolutely no problems.” Think its unfair to give Tsukune plenty of time to deal with things, but expect the girls to suddenly deal with it.
Obviously they will get through it and do what they need to. Besides the situation was hardly favourable for immediate action. Were completely outnumbered, not in optimal position for an accidental rosario pull off, were not in full force with missing some, and emotionally thrown off balance.
From what I remember Witches are unique in that they are in the middle between humans and youkai. If Yukari can make good friends with youkai in this school it may simply be easier for her to deal with that kind of discovery.
Personally think Mizore is heading off to save Tsukune or get Moka out of her cell when she left the room. Someone has to save Tsukune right now. Mizore and Kurumu will have to face this shocking revelation and move forward. Yukari can only do so much on her own and Gin….well, let’s see what he does.
Things can’t be the same now that they’ve gotten to this point. Tsukune is put up for execution. Some are just being caught up in mob excitement, some as we saw weren’t really for this, and I’m sure there are some that would rather not have this happen but don’t feel like getting beaten to the ground for just mentioning it.
Gotta say Wow! This episode was head and shoulders better than any one so far (and I don’t hold this series up to too high a standard, just guilty fluff entertainment). There is finally some real drama and character action here.
I am kind of on the fence regarding Mizore and Kurumu’s reactions. On the one had, given how Tsukune “saved” each of them at some point (granted from vampire Moka) and has been such a good friend to them for so long now, to totally abandon him is a bit harsh. I mean, being a human is cause for execution (as seen here) and not something to be revealed lightly, and though both are his good friends, it’s not an easy thing to share.
On the other hand, it is a big thing to keep from a friend and I can understand the betrayal feeling. I think Mizore, being a generally shy and withdrawn person may be feeling the sting of being betrayed by one of the few people she’s opened up to, while Kurumu I think is actually more bothered (whether she realizes it or not) that Tsukune shared this deep secret with Moka and not her, hurting her pride and heart.
I’m eager to see how all this shakes out, but I wonder if this will end up only being season one ending at episode 13, or if it will continue on towards a higher count.
So this is what the anime has done to Kurumu, Mizore, and Yukari’s character reactions in regards to Tsukune being a human? Woow, talk about doing a complete 180 compared to the manga. ~_~
Thank goodness this won’t have any effect on my views of their characters.
