I have to say this series has really impressed me. It’s really nothing that special. It’s not absolutely drop on the floor laughing funny, and it doesn’t have a lot of really emotional drama or anything, no action and the characters aren’t rally particularly deep. However there is something about this show that just made me smile while watching it. The other day in the AB IRC channel someone asked for a recommendation on feel good anime and I wasn’t quite sure of what anime that would really fit, good ones that is, but after seeing this series as a whole and especially the way they did this last episode I would defiantly put this anime in that category. It just has a kind of warm feeling to it. Nothing super spectacular, but a very nice slow paced anime.
I do have to say something separately about the cats in this series. It defiantly was one of the more interesting and unique aspects of this show. Not too many shows have large segments that just feature cats talking to each other, yet alone entire episodes that focus on it. Not only was it just fun to see it was one of the more humorous parts. I just wished they would have had a little bit more of that. The show wasn’t too entirely unique aside from this part. The rest of the series was still good and heart warming, but the cat bit really mixed it up.
And of course, I absolutely have to mention a couple of characters that I just absolutely love. They were definitely the most humorous part of this show. Now, as I said humor wasn’t the main focus, but the humor there was in the show was definitely better when these characters were involved. I’m referring to Kuga and the two club members who are always together which I’m too lazy too look up name wise. Kuga was absolutely great. Truly an example of an incredibly weird person being funny for just doing random stuff. The last episode sowed it well, the way she hid in the curtains for no reason and said sinisterly that Negi will forever think he and Sora were the only ones in the room. The fact that it makes absolutely no difference doesn’t seem to matter. Then the other two were great. It’s a bit too bad that they weren’t featured more but they certainly were great when they did appear.

Sketchbook was powered by slice of life! This was definitely one of my favorites of 2007. Sora was super cool, and the show was really inspiring to artists. =)
How does this anime compare to Hidamari Sketch? I totally enjoyed Hidamari Sketch, but the excruciating slow pace of the first two episodes of Sketchbook put me off. Does the pace remain that slow throughout, or does it slightly pick up later on?
Honestly, not really – The slow pace continues but I really think it either grows on you or I just liked it better then you because I didn’t view it as a problem.
