H2O - Footprints in the Sand - 06

Yui gets agitated that Hinata is now being friendly with Hayami, which she still continues to detest.

Impressions:

This episode was pretty interesting. At first I was very skeptical of it just because it featured Yui a character that I didn’t really particularly like due to extreme annoyance factor. However it did not only end up being a pretty good story for Yui it also really contributed to the overall plot about what had happened in the past with Hayami and why she was hated. However…I can’t really say it’s justified. Like…at all. I’m a bit surprised and really this technical aspect of the show has really knocked it down a lot of pegs for me. I mean, the entire village hates her to the point of beating her to near death every day because her parents which they murdered were semi-dictatorship over the village due to their wealth? First the big major point here is that HAYAMI WAS LIKE 5 WHEN THIS WAS GOING ON. Is everyone in the village a fucking idiot? Let’s habitually torture this girl whose parents, which we murdered, were cruel. Let’s forget for a minute that she herself did absolutely nothing wrong and in fact we did HER wrong by tearing her away from her family. I mean….MY GOD. Yes the show has some other redeeming pars about it and it’s still pretty interesting in a lot of ways but I almost just can’t get over this, its ridiculous.

I’m really interested in Otoha’s comment about Hirose not having much time remaining. I’m sure that means he’ll go blind again soon, or perhaps something even worse like die. Though, they haven’t really said death is a consequence for getting his eyesight for a while, so right now it only seems reasonable for him to loose his eyesight again. They seemed to do some time skip when he lost it or did a very horrible job showing peoples reactions to his eyesight, so hopefully they’ll do a much better job about him loosing it again, as it is a bit serious. Although they may not be horribly surprised he lost it since he once hadn’t had it before. Er…that’s kind of confusing but pretty much they would be justifiably less surprised about him loosing it then someone loosing it that never had lost it before. Still, I wonder what kind of affect this loss of eyesight will have on any of the really important aspects of the story.

Have to agree it can really get you pissed off with this village. Sadly its something that has actually happened in Japan. Not exactly this situation but a somewhat similar thing. Families that worked in unsavory industries like executioners have a stigma attached to them. Even now these people aren’t treated very well by their fellow Japanese. Seems to be a cultural thing that you suffer for the sins of your family no matter whether you deserve it or not. Real problem of innocents not being allowed to live because of what someone who is related to them did.

Now onto my personal opinion, I’d like that whole village to get taken out. Seriously putting blame on a girl who was very young when this all happened is monstrous. They stole everything away from Hayami. She lost her family, home, friends, and is constantly assaulted without anyone caring. Worst that even Hayami believes she has to endure the hatred to atone for her family, such a good person having to deal with this is gah…If they just have Yui and Hayami being fine even friends without anything done to deal with it I’ll throw something. (Maybe a pillow…at the wall…since I like my stuff)

What also is annoying is the seemingly lack of a need for Yui to apologise. Instead we have her knocking around the remains of Hayami’s house and giving her a bit of lunch and suddenly all is fine!? I get that bad things happened to Yui and that village, but what they have done to a single girl is horrific.

Anyways it does seem like Hirose is running out of time to get things done. Will probably have him solve some more problems before losing his sight again. Though unlike the start of the series he will have a lot of girls (and one guy….) supporting him. Maybe they will work together to help deal with the trauma that caused him to lose his sight in the first place. Some sort of group bonding leading to a happy ending.

Curious things still with Otoha. Real suspicions that she was a sister of Hinata. Looks too similar to that image of the dead one for it to be a coincidence. Working to help solve the problems of her village through the ‘Promised/Destined/Whatever One’ who can see her.

To what flareknight said about Otoha being Hinata’s sister, that might be the case, but I believe Otoha used to be called Hinata instead. The old man seems to be questioning her identity as Hinata as a way to keep Hinata doing what he wants. As for the time running out, I think he might have to start over from when he got his eye sight back, either that or he loses his eye sight again and they help support him and his condition heals over time.

Geez, after Hirose regained his site so early and without much of any particular uproar amongst his friends, I didn’t think this show could deflate it’s plot suspense or tension much more…wrong! Granted, and showing Hayami being treat so terribly for so long, I suppose anything short of her being the Anti-Christ would have been a letdown, but seriously, after learning about her family’s past, it seriously seems like the villagers are the roaches here. Now is it certain her parents are dead? I may have missed that but I only picked up that her family was “broken up” or something. Granted, I never understood how a village in the modern times could actually force a family to leave a place leaving their daughter behind to fend for herself. But if the village murdered her parents, I find it hard that a prominent family, even from a small village, suddenly disappearing would go without response.

Anyhow, just a let down. Everyone is starting to make up, the tension is almost gone, I guess Hirose will lose his eyesight soon. Wonder if this might degenerate into a silly harem now that the biggest tension is on its way to settling.
