D. Gray-Man - 64

Lenalee awakes from her sleep incased inside a shell made by her Innocence and the exorcists prepare to say goodbye to everyone who has already died as they head off the rest of the way to Japan.

Impressions:

This episode was rather dark and serious. Even though the fighting was over at this point and there wasn’t any fighting going on throughout the episode there were still some rather serious and dark parts. Even though they had established it already the fact that all those nearly hundreds of men died at once was serious. I can’t imagine how hard that is on Miranda. Even though they would have died without her doing anything she effectively is the one who pulled the plug. Of course its not her fault, she couldn’t keep the thing going forever and if not for her they’d be dead already but still, it was pretty serious. Seeing Miranda have to go though that and the other exorcists saying goodbye to those people who all died for them was pretty big. I was a bit surprised Anita died just because of how important of a character she was. Its one thing for nameless crewmen to die but for someone who they actually developed a bit it’s a much bigger deal.

I was a bit surprised with the preview for next episode as it seems like they don’t waste any time at all jumping into more action and serious things happening. Not only was I expecting a bit of a lull before dealing with a new thing I would have accepted it and not criticized the show for taking a bit of a break. However just from the preview it looks like they encounter an important character that is featured in the OP plus another, what appears to be, level three. They went though several episodes dealing with just one of them, nearly killing one of the characters to do so and now they’ll just going to throw another one at them? I wasn’t expecting things to go this fast but it seems like they are.

On a completely pointless point I do have to admit that Lenalee doesn’t look as bad as I thought she would with that short of hair. She was still much better looking with longer hair, but not as bad with short as I thought.

Well on a lighter note it seems even Anita wants Lenalee to return to long hair ASAP. Though obviously we may not see that before the series is finally over. Though since the manga isn’t done yet we’ll just have to be patient with short hair Lenalee.

Agree it was a pretty serious blow to lose Anita like that. She seemed like a pretty important character. At least expecting to last until they found Cross. But in the end she couldn’t hold out. Having the knowledge that he was alive should at least let her rest in peace. Maybe not a surprise when you think of it. She was standing out there at the helm without any exorcist around to cover for her. This will be a loss that will especially hold onto Lenalee. After all there was a friendship there and even though Lenalee put everything on the line she couldn’t do everything.

Have to feel for Miranda. We know from her character this situation will be a heavy burden on her. Its not her fault of course. She didn’t give the wounds and instead gave the people more time then they would have had to live. Must be a strange thing to know you will die in a short while and just try to live the most you can in that period. Miranda will just feel guilty, but sadly they have to move forward. Shocking how many didn’t survive the battle and now we have only a few crew members to move along with the exorcists.

Guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that they are moving along quickly again. After all things have gotten this serious. Japan is completely controlled by the Earl and the news that akuma higher than level 3’s are there is a horrific thing to imagine. Allen is fighting desperately to get his arm back so little room I guess to fool around. Maybe all that filler earlier in the series made the buffer for them to keep going like this now that its at such a serious time.

Just a good episode. Dealing with questions of whether Lenalee’s innocence is the heart, aftermath of a bloody battle, news of Cross and moving on to the next stage. Things are pretty dangerous and I worry somewhat about everyone there.

Basically, in January the anime will move to the ninth volume of the manga storyline.

If the animation staff decide to stick with the current pace of two to three manga chapters per one anime episode and no fillers between the ends of arcs, then by the end of June the anime will have reach the manga up to volume 14.

From the preview for next episode I figured out that they added some anime-original scenes to fill up the episodes. Likely they will slow down the anime pace in order to widen the gap with the manga.

The manga is currently midway through volume 15 right now.

Hey when does the subbed second season starts if any? People are waiting…

This is the second season. There was no gap in time between the two of them. The second season is everything past episode 52 (or 51)
