Hayate no Gotoku - 35

Nagi asks Hayate to go out and research dating spots and when Nagi also asks for Maria to take the day off, Maria and Hayate go together on a date to research the places.

Impressions:

This episode was alright. For the most part it fits in with the way all the episodes have been going lately. They really haven’t developed any kind of real connection; things have pretty much become completely episodic. It’s nothing new to this episode or anything. The one thing that I would have really liked to see form this episode but of course didn’t, which is why it came up, is any kind of real romance development going on. Not necessarily between Maria and Hayate or anything, but just something overall. However even tough I really hope for something like that I am kind of realizing that that hope won’t rally lead to anything considering how they take situations like this and don’t really do anything serious with them. Its still a great episode though, I don’t dislike this or any of the other episodes because they are isolated, but it is something that this show seems to have fallen into that I doubt will change, for the most part this series is just episodic episodes.

Still, that does mean that the episodes themselves aren’t bad. I did find this episode very fun to watch and there were several bits I liked. I first of all have to say I loved when Maria was trying on outfits. Not just because she is very cute in a non loli way but I’m a big Rozen Maiden fan and loved her putting on the Suigin Tou outfit. There were a couple of other parody bits in this episode, a bit more then normal. I could have sworn I saw Sakura from the Da Capo series in the background of one of the scenes. Asides from individual scenes I just in general enjoyed seeing more of Maria. It is a bit of a shame that she isn’t featured more. She is frequently shown but nothing ore then support really ever. Seeing her be the focus of the episode was great. I did really like the ending acting scene, as it showed off Maria wonderfully.

I’m still trying to figure out all of the outfits. Was the one hidden behind the skeleton perhaps a Simca reference? Since Simca ended up.. ahem… less-than-dressed in a few eps/volumes?

I think the best parts here were seeing Maria getting to do something other than hang around at home (look incredibly out of date, go shopping, showing off her zettai ryouiki), and how Hayate tried to cope with being nervous around a woman who he WOULD consider a romantic match.
