Episode of the Week:
ef - a tale of memories - 11
This week there really wasn’t a difficult choice. Not that some of the other episodes weren’t good, Clannad was very interesting but this episode of ef was absolutely incredible. The episode had such a huge impact on me, after finishing it I literally paced up and down a hallway for ten minutes because of it so because of how big this episode hit me, the other episodes didn’t’ stand up to it.
Really this episode was absolutely amazing. It was such an emotional rollercoaster, first it showed several scenes of things being extremely happy and well to do actually being rather fun to see yet then things turned so serious. There was such a huge turn of events that I was just shocked to see. It fits with how things were going and its not like it didn’t fit but it was still a huge event. However one of the things that hit me the most was even though there was such huge development it still leaves you wondering what the hell is going to happen next. This episode doesn’t really conclude anything with this big drama event but just built things up for the conclusion to be all the more interesting. Truly a great episode.
I think I’m actually one of the few people that think this anime is well…decent.
Half the people out there are raving about Ef being fantastic, a masterpiece, best of the year and stuff, while the other half is ranting about the show for the annoying animation effects, the glowing, the bad camera angles, the stupid scene composition, the SHAFT-directing(meh, directing sucks in all SHAFT-shows imho) and the dead city the series is taking place(I swear, they never meet anyone in the city when they’re walking outside or anything, the place is completely deserted except for the named characters) and the lazy animators(5 minutes of a countdown timer and stationary picture of a phone booth, 5 minutes of text messages getting displayed on a black screen, the re-usage of certain shots, the huge amount of shots from 50 metres or farther away so they don’t have to animate lips speaking and facial expressions or the ‘dead’ city, as I said earlier are just SHAFT being laxy and bad).
While I agree that it could have been a good series, and was pretty excited about the shop before it aired after seeing the trailer, there are just too many drawbacks for me to call this series great or something like that, though it is still watchable and I do enjoy doing just that.
