The Vic Viper team appears to defeat a WORM and demonstrate their power but when they aren’t enough to defeat it they must work together with the Sonic Divers.

Impressions:
For the most part I seem to be loosing my interest in this show. Really if it wasn’t so close to being done I would probably drop it, and I probably wouldn’t regret it if I had dropped this earlier. Really this show is just the same thing over and over again. Sure there are some differences here and there but really it’s either the WORM of the week or a filler episode that is pretty much completely comedy. Even the next episode preview seemed to point to the next episode being completely fluff. They’ve established some bits of the story that may be interesting but there is no where near enough of a serious focus on them to really make the overall show interesting. It really feels as if it’s just the same thing over and over again and I’m looking forward to it behind done because I want to complete it, even if I don’t really like it that much at this point.
This episode did manage to have a few interesting things. I did like the character development they had for Togo and his past regarding Hizuki. Again, the character development they have really isn’t that spectacular, as its not serious enough for any drama or changes in the character, for the most part its just us learning the facts about his past and not seeing it affect him, but seeing his past itself was a bit interesting. I do hope they don’t ever show the damn Vic Viper again. I’m really rather sick of seeing them, as the show seems like its putting focus onto the Sonic Divers and then just throws in these cameos for Vic Viper for the hell of it. The sow is focused on the Sky Girl aspect and the Sonic Divers and whenever the Vic Viper appears it just feels like they are showing off, “Hey look, we developed this other thing too we want to keep showing off” Hizuki was ok in bring out that flashback story, but now that that is done I don’t really want to see him again.
Now I forget exactly why Togo couldn’t fly anymore. Was it an injury as a result of protecting Hizuki? Or was it the act flying into enemy fire that caused his superiors to ban him from flying again forever?
@Crisu — neither one makes sense, 1) considering Togo’s critical position and 2) considering there has been nothing to suggest he’s physically unable to pilot anything. It’s just plain bad storytelling either way.
@Main Post — The show is basically as lame as ever. Besides the fact that the “quadra lock” is about as fun to see as the Power Rangers summoning their freaking megazord at the end of every episode and doing their one move to finish off the enemy, the Vic Viper in the show is a disgrace to the original concept. To be honest I really like the Vic Viper in Gradius. It’s an amazing machine and its specs are out of this world. And Sky Girls craps all over it. Imagine if in some random U.S. cartoon (let’s make it a hypothetical new GI Joe) sponsored by D.C. you suddenly had the “bat-suit” as a military prototype and so you had like 3 Batmen helping out G.I. Joe. Yeah Batman is cool but WTF would that be about? That’s what I’m seeing with the Vic Viper and it bothers me.
From a story-telling perspective, the Vic Viper blows. Really everything about the show suffers from awful, afwul writing.
In the end, I find it amazing that in 22 episodes they managed little more than they did in the original OVA. This stuff can be condensed into a 2-hour movie and there would still be plenty of room for random fluff considering how one-dimensional the plot and characters really are.
I can’t wait to see just how bad their Yuuki Sakurano idea is going to be. You’re going to put a kid who’s been held by W.O.R.M.s for several years into your only real line of defense against them? Yeah freaking sweet I’m sure this will all make a LOT of sense.
