Clannad - 11

Kyou sets up a violin recital for Kotomi to play for everyone in order to get her out and meeting more people, and so she doesn’t play around her and the others as much.

Impressions:

This episode was great. It had hilarious parts to it as well as some rather interesting bits. It wasn’t really anything huge yet, they are still really getting into Kotomi’s arc but it is becoming g more interesting. Throughout this episode though it was just continually hilarious. I absolutely love Kotomi’s character, as she’s probably become my favorite character. Fuko was good and all, but her comedy seemed to come from her being rather crazy. Kotomi is much weirder and sees the world in a different way so her comedy is a bit different. Whatever the reason I absolutely love Kotomi and found the focus on teaching her how to be funny hilarious. The way she just continually said “what the heck” was great. The violin was also great. Even though it was ore or less the same joke each time she played and it was horrible, the recital was still great.

There is definitely a serious aspect to Kotomi’s arc; however I’m still really unsure of what it is. It obviously has something to do with the guy who appeared at the end of this episode and a bit at the end of last episode. Seeing as how there seems to be a theme of family in this show, even though Kotomi refers to him as “the bad guy” I would bet he is related to her. However whether or not Kotomi’s arc is something that is real and normal such as having family problems or something where her moving away or living with certain people is the problem I’m unsure of. Fuko had a supernatural aspect to her arc so I’m wondering if Kotomi will have one as well or not. Kanon had some arcs that were supernatural and others that weren’t so there really is no definite answer for how the arcs will go in Clannad. It seems like there isn’t anything really supernatural right now, however there was a rather eerie scene when she opened the window and her hair was flowing, saying how she saw a rabbit, a deer, and then him. I have no idea what that was about but seeing that scene with her hair flowing like that was very eerie and cool, which could point to something. Right now I’m not sure but the fact that there is already a bit of drama and scuffle over the appearance of the guy has definitely brought my interest for Kotomi’s arc above just liking her for her weird personality.

I have to talk about Kyou again, as I mentioned her last post but there are more and more signs during Kotomi’s arc about how Kyou’s arc will play out. I can rather easily see how her arc will go already. It’s obvious that Ryou likes Tomoya and that Kyou knows that. That’s why she asked about dating to him, and blatantly said to Ryou that Kotomi was her rival. They hinted at it a bit more subtly last episode about Kyou giving Ryou a chance to be with Tomoya. However, as shown by the OP Ryou doesn’t have an arc, Kyou does. I’m pretty sure that it will end up being a situation where Kyou tries to get Ryou and Tomoya together but ends up falling for Tomoya or already likes him but is sacrificing her happiness for Ryou however in the end there winds up being drama between Ryou and Kyou. The focus of this show is on family and them being siblings and having this problem would defiantly fit.

    I need both Ryou and Kyou :(. Can we just skip to their arcs right now?

    This was one of the best eps so far. Okazaki’s dream sequence was just pure comedy gold. That sly guy also has quite the harem going now.

    Having both Ryou and Kyou, at the same time, would solve oh so many problems…

    Kotomi’s strange line about seeing the rabbit and the dear is a direct quote from “The Dandelion Girl”, a story by Robert F. Young. It’s a sci-fi story that’s apparently very popular in Japan, according to Wikipedia (it was an inspiration for Izubuchi to produce RahXephon). Still not sure how that will relate to Kotomi’s arc, though.

    Oh, it is very important Mirrinus, although many people don’t seem to think so. Just keep that phase in your mind till the end of this arc……

    @Xebek

    Yeah i agree with the last part about Kyou ends up falling for Tomoya while trying to pair him up with Ryou. But ultimately, it’s Nagisa and Tomoya. However, it’s still a sad ending in Clannad Movie :(

    @Mirrinus

    That’s a good piece of info. I’ll keep it in mind too :)

    What happened in the movie?

    I don’t know and I don’t want to know so please no one say, it would just be needlessly spoiling things. KyoAni will do a way better job at telling it then Toei anyways.

    Okay sorry for asking, I’m just one of those people that like to know whats going to happen before it happens I apologise!

    I also just wanted to know if Tomoya really does end up with Nagisa, but I will be patient like evryone else and wait and see.
