Shakugan no Shana II – 09

Margery tells about how the fight ended between her and Metamorphis and what the young flame haze Yuri did to intervene.

Impressions:

This episode was great. The previous episode was good too even though it seems now that it was mostly just setting up for this episode. In any case the conclusion to this back story bit they had going for Margery was just great. I said before that Margery was far from my favorite character. It’s not that I disliked her character but they didn’t give her any development at all so I just didn’t care about what happened to her. However, even with that initial standing this back-story really impressed me. It was very interesting to see the kind of situation that she was in and some of the things she’s gone though. I don’t think this is the end of the topic with Satou or whatever the guys name is that doesn’t have the random girl who likes him, wanting to be a flame haze. I’m looking forward to how this side story will conclude and I really hope they do infact give it some kind of closure and don’t just leave it unresolved.

There was definitely a rather large “WTF” moment in this episode that really added to it as well, in a very good and interesting way. Although this episode was mainly good because of the Margery back-story the bit at the end with Yuji creating a silver fuzetsu was very odd. Right now I’m not sure what exactly it means either, but it’s obviously something that isn’t normal and will end up being a big deal. From what I gathered this seems to mean that Yuji has some kind of connection to that silver guy that Margery is hunting down. What the connection I have no idea and I’m sure we probably won’t really find out for a while. My only guess would be that it has something to do with the whole keeper thing they mentioned. I didn’t know what the hell that meant either but perhaps it means this silver guy has some hold on Yuji’s Reiji Maigo.

The next episodes preview did get my attention, as it involves some guy who appears who seems to have Yuji’s smile. The idea that immediately popped into my head was that it was his father. I don’t know the story about what happened to his dad, if he died or left or got divorced, they probably mentioned it before but I don’t remember it, and really it doesn’t matter considering that either of those reasons in this setting could mean he can come back. It does seem like it will be more then just normal fluff, so that’s always good regardless.

  1. Thought this was a pretty good episode. Yuri was a good guy who stuck with what he believed in until the very end. He may not have been a Flame Haze that had the average belief system, but that’s what made him unique. Just wanting to help others no matter what the cost would be to himself. Go moth power!

Certainly some internal struggles for Margery. Having her revenge at a higher level than Yuri’s life. Have to think the fact she had that mindset really bothers her. Maybe this is the reason she wears those glasses since I doubt she developed an eye condition while a Flame Haze.

The situation with Yuji is pretty heavy. Silver flames are incredibly abnormal that’s for sure which is why Shana and Alastor are shocked. Have to believe this is connected somehow to that silver guy Margery has been hunting. I can’t figure out for the life of me what the connection could be, but it has to be important.

  2. I know the story already, and I don’t want to ruin it, so I’ll just say that Yuji is going to change and become a much more interesting character. It’s a shame that the series has so much fluff, and that the anime is paced so slowly–I understand some of the novels have much fluff also. But when they feel like it, the novels can be excellent–volume 16 had a whole series of plot twists for example; according to the animesuki forums.
