The Superintendent challenges Hayate to a doujinshi sales off, if he wins she’ll restore the school festival to normal and if he looses Hina and the other student council girls have to wear embarrassing maid outfits.
Impressions:
This episode was pretty good, it wasn’t really anything outstanding like I was kind of hoping for, but I do think that after so many episodes a lot of the initial charm as worn off so things may not be as interesting or funny as they used to be. Still, it wasn’t as though it was as bad episode at all. I thought the whole “Real Culture Festival” was an interesting idea as the show seems to get a lot of strength from parodying things and they did some of that with parodying and making fun of high level otakus. Aside form that, nothing really that spectacular, but it wasn’t a bad episode either.
I am growing more and more interested and curious as to who the person is that has two braids of hair and what seems to be cross or x shaped earrings. They have been shown in the OP, at least a silhouette of them, for a while now. I think they were in one of the previous OPs as well, and here in this episode they were shown in person, although with a mostly covered up face. They haven’t really had any hint as to what part this person will do; I’m not even sure what gender they are. It’s not like they’ve been shown mysteriously doing something, they didn’t really do anything this episode and in the OPs it just seems like they face off against Hayate. I’m sure someone with this much mystery behind them will end up being rather important later on, so their appearance here just made me more anxious.
I’m looking forward to the next episode as it seems like it will involve Maria a lot. She’s a great character but has gotten practically no development at all. Even though she gets a lot of screen time she’s never anything more then support and it seems that next episode will give her a bit more then that. They have a whole relationship thing going on where Hayate kind of likes Maria, they established that a little bit and its one of the few things I remember form the volume of manga I’ve read, yet they haven’t touched on that subject at all yet either, hopefully next episode will be really good.

It’s been going around that that person is Himegami (sp?).
