Yeah... I don't know how much *influence* Konami has on the show, but it seems to be more of a "hey how about you guys put in the ship from our Gradius games" than anything else. Then again those shootemups are way more popular in Japan than they are elsewhere, so maybe folks love seeing the Vic Viper the way we'd love seeing a [decently done] Batman make appearances in something like CSI or whatever. Maybe. I like Bats too much to want him appearing in a rubbish crime show but I guess it can't hurt.

The Vic Viper's not supposed to be some military mass-production jet from Earth, though... it's not an F-22. It's a culmination of all the technology the planet Gradius had to offer, used to fight off a planetary threat which ultimately destroyed the planet afaik. Its companion ship the Road (or Lord) British Space Destroyer was likewise built as the ultimate defense for the planet Latis. So.. as a Gradius fan I have mixed feelings about the Vic Viper in this show. Also the pilot is a bit of a douche but 'evs.

I agree that the show just isn't well done. At all. If it weren't for the art quality, I probably wouldn't give it a minute of my time. This is a show that can easily be condensed to a 12-episode series given how little they've actually managed to come up with that's *worth sitting through.* That's really my issue. I don't need plot progression as long as there's something interesting going on. And with Sky Girls it seems even the plot progression is so uninspired that I'm just like "mehhhh" every time they reveal another piece to their really unoriginal puzzle.
