My Anime Convention Report – I Bought Lots Of Stuff… Probably Too Much

Well, there’s a good reason that I didn’t get around to doing an episode of the week post for last week, as last weekend I went to an anime convention that is held in the town I live. It’s put on by the local university’s anime club and this is was the third annual, I’ve been to each one. It’s not a HUGE convention, but it’s not really tiny either. Either way it is a lot of fun and they had enough dealers for me to blow a lot of my money on stuff, which I’ll show below.

I didn’t really get a chance to take too many pictures of the actual convention, I tried doing that last year but this year I just didn’t want to have to think about it so I just enjoyed my time there. There were quite a few cosplayers, some of them neat and others just average. One of the coolest cosplaying there was a group of six people who all dressed up together as a group as the characters from Ouran. They all had matching uniforms so it was obviously planed as a group thing, and they all looked very similar to their characters. You could tell who was who without asking, and I just though the way they did it as a group was one of the better cosplaying there.

The panels were pretty interesting too. I got to be on two of them, as a lot of the people who go to the convention don’t watch or know as much as I did, and I have been in communication with the staff and all, I was on two of them. It was really fun. The two that I did were a panel talking about Haruhism and the other was an Anime Review, talking about and reviewing/recommending anime, some that have been out and others that were currently airing. I really wanted to do this one because it is kind of what my site does anyways. One of the other panels I liked that I just went to was a Sailor Moon panel. I’m a big fan, and I’m proud of it, and it was rather fun. Plus there were just several others that I went to that were good as well.

The dealer’s room was an average size, again for a convention this big. Not the biggest, seeing as its still rather young, but enough that I spent a lot of money. I bought a figure, two wallscrolls, two art books, a dozen posters, and a Haruhi armband that I just had to get since I was doing the Haruhi panel and needed it to go along with my Haruhi shirt. Then I also got a Nodoka plushie. Below are the pictures of everything I got.

Here is my super cute Nodoka plushie. The anime and even manga aside Nodoka herself is one of my favorite characters in anime so I had to get this.

Here’s the figure, a Shana one. I saw this figure a while ago online but didn’t really have the money for it. However it’s still a good figure because she’s super cute and although generally it seems like Kotobukiya’s figures aren’t the best but I’ve always found the Shana figures of theirs to be better then others. I’ll get some better pictures later; I have a huge figure backlog right now.

My two wallscrolls, a Haruhi one and another Shana one. I did seem to get quite a lot of Shana stuff as it was one of the few series that wasn’t the super commercialized crap that airs in the US.

Here are my two art books I got. The first is a Fate/Stay Night book that has concept and production art, they are the sketches and drawings for it and I just thought that that was pretty good, and despite what some people say I really liked the show. The other art book is from Tsubasa Chronicle, being a big fan of the genre in general and the show I picked up the book because it just has good art, having colored pictures in it though as opposed to the FSN one. The pictures of some of the art inside aren’t the best, as I didn’t want to damage the books.

Finally I got six small posters, rather cheap but still pretty good to just hang up.

Man. I wish there were more anime expo/conventions here in London. Could do with another wall scroll.

Can’t remember the last time I got to go to an anime convention sounds like you had some good times. Ton of nice stuff as well so thanks for letting us have a look.

Oddly enough Budding, staying in London, Ontario for school it was just something I thought to note.

I’m in London, United Kingdom in case you’re wondering. But yeah, quite cool to know the name of the place is the same.

And furthermore, revisiting this thread has only made me more jealous. I need to waste more money that I don’t have on more anime merchandise :p.

Yeah thought it might be the more important London :).

But agree makes you wish you had some money to burn on anime stuff. Have far too little for my liking :).
