Idolmaster Xenoglossia - 26 [Final]

Modenkind tires to come up with a way to stop Auryn from destroying the world now that it has an unbalanced power because of its absorption of Nubulim.

Impressions:

Wow, I thought this episode was great. It was still very serious and had some rather dark and tragic ending points while at the same time having a happy end to it. I’m glad that something died in the end. I was shocked when it looked like Makoto and Iori would die, I don’t think that would of necessarily helped the series too much because it seemed like it didn’t need something that tragic, but having the iDOLS die to save the world was wonderful, it was tragic enough yet left room to say they sacrificed themselves and its ok. This truly has been an amazing series and I think that this episode brought a wonderful conclusion to it.

This episode did leave out a few things that I would have really liked to see in the conclusion. It felt like they hardly touched at all on the topic of Makoto and Yukiho and any kind of redemption they had. They did do a good job with Makoto though, but they could have done a tad more. However Yukiho cold have used a LOT more. I think the show could have benefited from it. Her turn to the dark side or more like her revelation she is on the dark side was one of the most interesting and exciting parts of the show. Her involvement with them was very interesting and made several points in the series more interesting; however it feels like they didn’t give her any closure at all. Not even her regretting or apologizing or showing any interest in not being evil.  With Makoto you at least saw she went back to being a good guy but they didn’t even show that with Yukiho, let alone any closure with Haruka. It just feels like this episode or more so the conclusion to this series could have really used this.

Final Words:

This show has been incredible. It is a bit of a shame that the last episode sub came out oddly late compared to the other releases, but this show has been great. It is easily one of my favorite mecha shows because it just seems to do some things differently. It has a clichéd setting and general content that one may find in many other mecha shows while at the same time really seeming to be very different to me. Especially when they got near the end there were so many things going on at once. It was great to see a show have so much content going on.  They had many different levels of things going on from protecting the world and their friends to dealing with their connection to the mechas and at the same time they had this theme of betrayal and friendship that was just incredible. Things may have started off rather happily but near the end things so chaotic with so and so betraying whom and losing things you felt connected to. There were times when the show got very dark. The show may have started off rather innocent, not much going on and even the plot that was going on wasn’t serious, but it son became much more then that.

One thing I found interesting about this show was just the way that the iDOLS reacted to the masters. Nearly every mecha, or a good percent of them, deal with the topic of the mechas having a life of their own somehow. It’s done in different ways but generally seems to amount to the same thing. However the way it was handled here really interested me. The iDOLS didn’t have free will to the extent that they ever actually acted on their own in battle. There were like two times where it showed the iDOL went to visit or find the master but for the most part the life the iDOL had wasn’t really connected to how much it did. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum that very small amount of interaction meant everything in the show. There were times where some really good and interesting drama just came from the fact that the damn mecha wouldn’t start, signaling some kind of relationship problem. It seemed to combine different degrees of this in a very peculiar way yet it worked.

The other thing that this show did very well was just the relationships between the girls. Generally I love a show to have romance in it and when it doesn’t I find that a lot of the friendship relationships that may replace it aren’t nearly as interesting. However even though this show had a complete lack of romance really, except for perhaps the above mentioned connection to the iDOLS, the relationships and friendships between all of the characters really shinned.

I really liked this ending too, not your usual happy everone comes back to life sort of ending. A little bit more about what happened to the characters afterwwards might have been nice too. Nevertheless, the ending certainly had impact.

If only sunrise would have made an anime with them dancing similar to the game like timewarp said on youtube. Then I wouldn’t have had to see Yukiho, my favorite character in the game Idolm@ster commit such sins.

Also the ending was so sad that everytime I looked back at the events of the show I seemed to have a hard time sleeping.

Thank god I don’t have to watch the ending anymore after finally finding this episode in english subtitles.
