Hayate learns of a Butler Battle Tournament going on being held by the superintendent of the school and decides to take place in it in order to make Nagi proud and prove to himself and the superintendent that he is capable of protecting Nagi.

Impressions:
This episode was ok, it certainly setup for some interesting events going on. However it did almost feel like it took a bit too long to set things up. Most of the episode was just introducing the idea of the tournament without any real fighting, especially not with Hayate. However, as I said it did set some things up to be interesting, but beyond that it was little more then a setup episode. Hopefully the following episodes will be good to make up for it. There was the Hina battle which was fun to watch though, so it wasn’t a complete waste, but it did feel like it could have been slightly better. Hina was pretty cool fighting though, but it doesn’t seem like Hayate will get to face her or anything because of the preview showing a battle in the finals, they would have to squeeze two and a half battles into the next episode to fit Hina in.
I’m curious as to where the show will end up going form here. This has been one of the only long term story arcs the show has had, as usually the episodes are really isolated with only minor things that may be mentioned later. However, this seems like it will go on for at least two, maybe even up to four episodes more. Next episode will be the battle against the rose guy, and that may take two episodes to finish, finishing in the first half of the second or so, then he has to fight against the superintendent’s butler which may take a while. Hell, considering the fight against Tama and Klaus, maybe even five episodes. So it will just be interesting to see how things turn out considering this is the longest story arc so far, as there haven’t really been any arcs other then this. However, what affect this arc will have on the rest of the episodes still left I have no idea, and it will be interesting to find out.
Anyone notice the Yasako from Denno Coil cameo at 20:37 and the Higurashi ending parody in the ED?
I certainly did notice Yasako.
