The final episode of School Days…. That’s all I’ll say. It’s messed up.

That….was fucking messed up. Those … lines above really aren’t for some effect. I sat down to write about this episode and series and really that’s all that came out at the beginning. I mean, MY GOD that was jus s….fucked up. I… really don’t know what to say. It was……wow…..
I really didn’t actually like the ending. I do have to give the show some credit, as many school drama shows are no where near this serious or dark at the end. So the show does have to get some recognition there, but I honestly didn’t really like it. The show had been kind of spiraling downwards for me, but this ending didn’t really help, as I said above it was messed up. I mean, it’s not just the killing. Its not just hat they got killed, it’s the fact that Kotonoha freaking slicked off Makoto’s head and carried it in a bag and then was hugging it on the boat. THAT’S FUCKING MESSED UP! Now, I don’t really have a problem with endings that don’t necessarily end all happy go lucky everyone is super well off. But something that is this dark and messed up really just did not fit well with this show or genre at all. I really didn’t like it. Its one thing to have a rather bittersweet ending, where things are for the better good but stills ad, but nothing was right in this episode or series at all. EVERYONE was fucked pretty much. Its one thing if Makoto ended with one girl and the other was a bit sad and devastated, but for them all to basically die or go completely insane and crazy is another.
Final Thoughts:
This series was just very weird for me to watch. I’m a HUGE fan of this genre…usually. This show even had the makings of being great near the beginning, but then it completely broke away form that and things started to go to hell. I really started to dislike the main character, hate him, something a show really shouldn’t do. I’ve never really liked any show where the main character didn’t have some good quality. Hell, even spineless harem characters are better because they will have some redeeming qualities. Makoto turned into a complete ass, sleeping with every girl he could see, ruining people’s lives and destroying their love and dreams. It’s bad enough with Setsuna and Otome, but then Kotonoha and Sekai. I really hated him throughout a lot of the series yet kept hoping he would realize his mistakes or something, and he never really did. Honestly, I disliked this series. I started up with so high hopes for it and then everything just went to hell.
Although I disliked it, I do have to recognize some things about the show. Normally these are good qualities in a show, and it’s almost a waste because if another show handled these aspects better they could have made a good show out of it. Things like I didn’t know how it was going to end until the very end. Things were so fucked up that I didn’t now what was going to happen, and there were some interesting views on things such as Sekai actually introducing him to Kotonoha to get closer, it did have some interesting point of views making people seem like the bad guy and the good guy form different lights.
Overall, really, I disliked it. I hated the ending, because even though I’m not adverse to sad or bittersweet endings, this ending was just so fucked up no one ended off for the better and the way things went to crap, it wasn’t for the better good either. It wasn’t someone sacrificing themselves for the world or love, it was just chaos and crap that just exploded. Its not just the ending too, as things just went downhill leading up to it. It’s a shame, as I loved this show near the beginning. The bit of drama between Sekai and Kotonoha was good, but when they started expanding on it, they went too far. There can be too much, and they had way too much for this to be good. They dragged too many people into it and made things too serious to the degree there were killings and people going psychopathic, and it just didn’t work of this show in my eyes.
NO… what’s messed up is episode 1 to 11, the final episode merely right the wrongs and bring justice to the bleak world.
I think its still pretty messed up — not saying everything else wasn’t. It’s not quite justice, its just everything going kaboom. Some people may have gotten what they deserve or whatever, but still this episode was screwed up, and what I was referring to was really the series as a whole was messed up.
My messed up comment wasn’t referring really to the outcome of everything, just the overall events that had happened throughout the series.
I mentioned in my own review that School Days is in a genre of a its own. This certainly wasn’t a school romance because, well, there practically wasn’t any romance present. I found it to be very entertaining though while I wouldn’t say that I loved the series or disliked it, I can say that it was good enough for me watch from start to finish and to manage to make me love two characters (Kotonoha and Setsuna) regardless of their faults.
In addition, Makoto was a bastard, I agree, a complete two timer but he wasn’t a murderer so it wasn’t all truly justice. An ass kicking or shunning would have been awesome, seeing the pathetic fool squirm in agony, but Jesus…Justice? To fanboys, yes. But in real world justice, this just seems like a senseless murder fest.
Believe or not, ep 12 of school days has already been edited. The unedited version have ppl running out and puke in Japan.
Well some people actually praise the endings…with Makoto being a …. playboy.
If you want another ending, there is always the ‘eternal lover’ one from the game where both girls will live happily ever after with the guy.
An awful ending for an equally awful series. One thing’s for certain however, if we can indeed find people of equal stupidity as the cast in this anime, Big Brother would become a show worth watching.
And speaking of unedited versions, do you know where I can find it? I think with the unedited version I would at least be able to place this anime under the horror/gore genre and give it a scalable rating in my review.
It had a nice spin-off, I can only ask myself if he was really going to redeem himself.
It really takes a lot for me to say a show is bad. Hell, there are several series that people say suck that I pretty much say aren’t that bad. I tend to give shows the benefit of the doubt, saying that they aren’t THAT bad and there is some good, or at least that it was “fun” to watch.
This show was just horrible. It takes a lot for me to say that, but I hated it. The series leading up tot he edning was horrible and then the killings and ending jsut competed the crappiness perfectly.

I do know of the spin-off Summer Days, but I dont know much about it. I really hope that it is way different from this show, as many spin-offs are anyways. The show had some potential with interesting characters minus some qualities that lead to this outcome, hopefully the spin-off keeps the characters like they are but with a good show. If it does, it has the possibility of being fairly okay. But again I have no idea if they would even make a show of the spin-off considering how much this sucked.
It is hard to say I enjoyed the show, considering I hated every character in the show, but I certainly found it to be a nice change of pace for a very stale genre. I usually hate harem shows and get sick of them after the first few episodes, but this one got more interesting as it went on. Was shocked when Makoto originally “hooked up” with Sekai because that stuff doesn’t happen in these kind of anime. Was even more shocked as Makoto’s list of concubines continued to increase. With all the psychological damage Makoto placed upon Kotonoha and Sekai, I could not see any scenario where Makoto lived, especially after all the foreshadowing with the knives. Had he lived the show would be in my bottom 20 anime, I hated him that much.
The ending was very gruesome and I can certainly see why they did not air it on most Japanese channels, especially after what happened. Even expecting a violent ending, I was still surprised by parts.
“Just as I thought, it was a lie. There’s no one inside” Kotonoha’s line was was horrifying, yet very memorable.
Ok, a confused person here. Question please? After Kotohana killed Sakai, she cut a hole in her stomach right? And she said, uso. Doesn’t that mean lie, so did Sakai lie about being pregnant or was Kotohana just too crazy?
I never got the impression she wasn’t lieing about being pregnant, I think Kotonoha was just crazy. Its probably way too early in a pregnancy for Kotonoha to see anything, especially for just slicing randomly into her.
As for bravejaf’s comment, I’m always bothered by the fact that people make comments like disliking a genre. No offense or anything, but in general if you have bad views towards a genre, no matter how well the show comes across the views wills till be warped. I love harem shows, but I also realize they aren’t epic or anything like that.
People need to accept that a show can still be good and FUN to watch without being completely super innovative and original, it can still be fun. Anyways, I guess that there didn’t have much to do with this show, but still, as a fan of harem shows “They aren’t that bad” you just have to not expect them to be amazing and they can still be FUN to watch.
They remove some horrofic scene red blood, splattered blood, stab repeatedly, Makato head, Sekai
cut throat (have been enlarge it).
Sekai puke that indicate she really pregnant and Kotohana trying to make a hole in the stomach to confirm that is gone that means Sekai went to the hospital and ask to remove it.
This story is quite true in my country i have several heard in the news dumping a chopchop lady body without a head. Abandoned baby inside the bag (alive).
Makato didnt know whats right or wrong his parents should teach some value education.
@Mythological
Except that Makato’s parents were divorced, and he lives with his mother while his sister lives with his father. Add to the fact that his mother had to work and had leave him alone, he probably never had much time with his parents. I feel a tiny little bit of pity for Makoto because of that.
In the end, however, it doesn’t change the fact that every single character in this movie needs to have their mentality checked.
I did liked how the studio incorporated the two infamous endings into one finale. Those endings (along with another one which I won’t disclose, but it involves Kotonoha) are what made School Days infamous, after all.
As for Summer days, I’ll tell you right off the bat that there are no such violent endings. But it’s probably the buggiest piece of software ever created, and you’ll probably stop playing out of sheer frustration before you can try enjoying the story.
I noticed why Makato becoming a sexmaniac he had many playboy magazine under the bed. The store should be strictly not to sell to minors even highschool students.
The anime does hold true to what it was trying to say though, dispite how horrible it may have been. It portrays exactly what real life can be like and trys to scare its viewers by showing them that people shouldn’t cheat on others.
The true meaning of this series is… don’t fuck around with like 10 different girls.
I can’t say I liked this show. But I can’t say I disliked it either.
To begin with, I don’t think that Makoto and all other characters in this show were made to be liked. They were made to be hated, because they were all messed up, stupid and idiotic.
I thought that Kotonoha had issues from the time when Makoto lost any interest in her. She was going nuts already. So, it wasn’t a surprise for me that she just decapitated dead Makoto and went on a journey with his head.:)
As for Sekai, she was just…uh…I felt sorry for her in latest episodes, but in the last one, I hated her. I am pretty sure she was the most selfish person in this anime. She probably even got pregnant on purpose.
Anyways, overall, I enjoyed this anime in terms of entertainment level. It was a fucked up anime, no romance, no likable characters, nothing to think about actually, but still, I somehow enjoyed it. But I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, though. :)
This was actually a “funny” anime to me (as in funny I mean weird)….Makoto is just a dork in the beginning, but as soon as he hooks up his Kotohana he becomes a fucking Mega Playboy? I felt sorry for only ONE character in that show and it was Kotohana…she was used, betrayed, raped…plus it was because of Motoko that her fragile state of mind was destroyed, mended, then destroyed once again. School Days is a fucked up anime (”is” because they are producing an OVA for it), but it’s unique for its genre, plus it’s targeted to 18 (that’s the reason for the very graphic depictions of death in Ep. 12). But hey, the insert theme for the deaths of both Sekai and Motoko was pretty good :-).
I’ve just finished watching this anime, and, hell, for a fucking anime it had an amazing ending, really. That fucking bastard asshole had what he deserved; I’m not kidding, I was jumping from happiness when Sekai stabbed him to death, I was really happy.
