Eternal Sonata Ch. 1 & 2 - Raindrops and Revolution

It’s me Xeby-chan. Well, here’s the first post about Eternal Sonata like I said. Well, I guess its not the first one because there was that post that I did about the fact that I was doing the posts…so I guess this is the second post about the first post…oh well :D I’m going to break it down into four posts for the seven chapters, including this one.

This segment is about this guy who is all like sick and then dreams and then there’s this other sick girl and they go and do stuff and meet other people and then all go and do that stuff together until they meet a loli. There you go, the full summary, but I guess I’ll give you a more detailed one below and my expert opinion.

Summary:

  • We see Polka saying how she has no choice about something, and then jumps off a cliff t what seems to be hear death, saying on the way down, wondering if she blew a kiss to him if he would feel it up there… she guess no.
  • We see Polka trying to sell Floral Powder, but some lady tells her it’s useless because mineral powder is better and cheaper. Then some guy gets hurt and she uses magic to heal him, causing everyone to flee away from her. At home, we find out that her ability to use magic means she has a terminal illness, and although its not contagious, people are still afraid to be near her so she’s depressed because he’s got no friends.
  • We see Beat and Allegretto, Alg, two brothers, stealing bread. They give it to some orphans in the sewer. (But my god it’s the pretties sewer I’ve ever seen) They talk about how everything has a super high tax on it except mineral powder and they eventually set out to go to Forte, the castle where the leader guy is (forgot his name) to see if they can help lift the tax so the orphans can eat well.
  • Polka is looking at the city on a cliff, kind of depressed and Fredric, Fred, come sup behind her. He tells her how he can use magic too, and says that this is all his dream world but she doesn’t quite believe him. She takes him to see some flowers and kind of says it’s not his dream world because he couldn’t read her mind and didn’t know stuff going on in his dream. She says it doesn’t matter, she just wants to do something to help people before she dies, and the two of them set off for Forte.
  • Polka and Fredric run into a guy with a monocle (Oh, come on that means he’s got to be evil, look at Mr. Peanut) He easily kicks their ass and says something about how he needs to find some glowing thing, and leaves Polka and Fred unconscious.
  • Beat and Alg walk past the area where F and P were defeated and find some small village. It turns out Polka and Fred were rescued by some creature called agogo and are staying at the village. Alg recognizes Polka as the magic flower powder girl, and eventually the four of them head off together, as their goals are all to get to Forte and have similar goals regarding taxes and mineral powder. Before they go, March, the girl who took care of P and F when they arrived asks them to give her sister’s hat to her sister, Salsa, who is at the castle trying to complain as well. (This guy REALLY isn’t very popular is he)
  • Along the way, they help save this hot chick’s sheep from some magic using creepy guys. Her name is Viola and she explains that the people who attacked her are what happens to people who use mineral powder for long periods of time. Alg says since they can use magic that must mean they are terminally ill. It bothers them that the mineral powder is so dangerous, and Viola says she’ll go with them to Forte to try and help them do stuff. Fred wonders why the leader guy would want to do this. Alg agrees, saying there are easier ways to just kill his subjects.
  • After the big group of heroes does something, we see a scene of three people in a room, all music named, talking about some rebellion that they are planning against the evil leader guy. They talk about some plans they have to rescue some guardian of that forest that P and F were saved at. They say that they are looking for glowing creatures there because the normal ones increase mineral powder’s effectiveness. The leader rebel guy says that it’s likely the glowing ones will increase it much more, and that more or less means more mindless super soldiers.
  • The main group eventually reaches Forte, and eventually the next morning head over to the castle in order to try and get an appointment with the Count. They head to the castle but Tuba, one of the Count’s guards, stops them and says he knows what they are doing, and eventually arrests them and throws them in prison.
  • There, the meet Salsa and together they all escape. On their way out they run into Falsetto, Jazz, and Claves the three people we saw earlier planning a rebellion and mission to save Salsa. Everyone then heads back to Viola’s village because the Count will likely send people after them now. On the way, Jazz’s group tells everyone of the situation, that Waltz is using the mineral powder to create mindless soldiers that can use magic, but the mineral powder kills them eventually so he just keeps making more and more and getting more and more soldiers, which is why he wants the agogos to mix in the powered so he can get a higher effectiveness.
  • As they are heading back, Tuba appears again to try and stop them, saying how he will make sure to kill them as his life is on the line. When he fails to defeat everyone he destroys the bridge they are all on and everyone falls into the river below.

Impressions:

The story has certainly been interesting so far. I’m really interested in the story regarding the dream and reality, which is real and what not. While the bit of the story that focuses on the Count and mineral powder and all is a bit interesting, I’m still much more interested in the question of what reality is. Near the end of Chapter Tow Chopin seemed to have this back and forth between himself wondering what was real saying that the dream world could be real, but then getting mad at himself or thinking that, its all just really interesting. I really hope it turns out to be something more interesting and in-depth then everything actually being a dream, such as there is no reality, that they are both real and what not, as it would make things more interesting would make things feel like less of a waste. If everything vanishes and was all a dream, it seems a bit useless, so hopefully there’s more to it.

I’m a bit surprised bout the way they have done this Party Level system. It’s pretty much a level for the battle system itself, and occurs after certain events. You can’t choose the level, and go with the one that is highest. As the level increases, for the most part, it makes battles harder. So not only does the game curve the difficulty like normal games by just making monsters harder, it does things like give you less time to act and thus do less damage per turn. So far I can’t really say whether it good or bad, but it definitely interesting and should prove to be one of the things at makes the great battle system more fun.

I do have to say that Vila is very hot, I am impressed with her character :D Of course, there is more to her then just that and she does seem like an interesting character. As for other characters, Polka, well, come on she’s voiced by Hirano Aya, it’s like a terminally ill Haruhi who uses magic. However I think I can tell already that March and Salsa will be my favorite soon, bust because it’s obvious from the way March is acting that her sister will be very eccentric, I almost feel like I’ve already seen her in action.

The story is ok, pretty good right now but nothing spectacular. However, although right now the story hasn’t shot up it’s really already given me the feeling that it will soon so it’s done a good job of showing that it will become more interesting soon. I’m kind of worried about it being a bittersweet ending especially with all the terminally ill people, just begs for tragedy, however that will hopefully just make for things all the more interesting.

I love Salsa, she’s quickly became my favorite character so far. First off she’s a loli just like me, but I just think she’s hilarious. I could tell before even meeting her though exactly hat her character would be like, seeing as she was twins with a polite and little bit shy sister, of course she has to be pushy and eccentric. However, it’s still great to see. I absolutely love her back and forth she had with Viola and really hope that that continues throughout the rest of the game. Her continually referring to Viola as an old lady just fit her personality so well, her character came together really fast it was just really awesome and fun.
