Impressions:
This last episode was great. It really wasn’t too different from the majority of episodes, but if it had been I think it wouldn’t have been following the theme of the show very much and wouldn’t have been as fun. I loved the whole cheerleading thing as it was cool to see them more or less integrate the OP into the show. I also of course loved Konata and the connections they made with Konata wanting to meet Hirano Aya. I thought that was just brilliant and hilarious. When that bit was showed I actually laughed out loud, in a public place when I was watching this on my laptop and had to cough to cover up the sound so I didn’t look like a complete idiot. Then of course Konata dressing up like Yuki for the fortune telling was great too, as I love that they’ve done some of those crossovers and references to other KyoAni productions. Konata speaking just like her was great, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually had Yuki’s seiyuu guest voiced that. Then of course Minami and Yu have always been fun to watch, and them being dressed up as a prince and princess was great as well.
I did love the segment between Shiraishi and Akira and their Lucky Channel segment, if it could be called that. I think it was the perfect end to their whole thing as it wasn’t a traditional Lucky Channel episode, but really I think that’s what made it all the more funny. They had already broken away from that and to see them do more then just another average segment I thought was hilarious. The way they still maintained a giant grudge against each other like that, in front of people, was hilarious and it was really cool to see them not just do something that wasn’t like the majority of segments, but to be integrated into the show for the final episode and not just have a separate bit, as I don’t think it would have been as funny.
Final Thoughts:
I do have to say really quickly before I talk about the important things for this series, I really couldn’t give a damn about most of the people who seemed to completely bash this show think. There was a huge controversy it seemed about the show airing because people were saying its pointless and some other stuff, so fucking what? I’m not going to get into this as I can go off on a rant and I really don’t want to, many of my first posts for this series has some of those rants and if you want read those. I really couldn’t care less about what some idiots think and if you think its bad I’m not going to change your opinion, so I’ll just say I don’t give a damn.
One of the things that I will always remember this show as being is having those moments that can just be described as “I’ve done that before.” Or “I know exactly what they mean” It’s odd, but this is pretty much slice of life comedy to the very truest extent it can be. It’s not some touching moments with friends being shown for the most part, its not showing real life drama people go though, it’s showing just those tiny fun moments that you can really related to. That’s what this show was really about to me, full of those moments that you can really relate to. You may to be able to relate to them all, but really that’s what it was about. Times where they would show someone doing the whole talking into the fan thing and saying that it’s only for kids but then doing it themselves. I mean come on, who hasn’t talked into a fan like that? It’s something incredibly stupid and childish, yet is so stupid and childish that so many people have done it; it carries with it that comedy. There are so many other examples, so many better comedy bits but that’s just one that comes to mind. I haven’t really seen any show that demonstrates this “I’ve done that before” or “I know exactly what they mean” moments. Maybe it doesn’t have some of the same kind of comedy as other shows, it may not be super cleaver all the time and isn’t always drop dead on the floor laughing, but it still has this air to it that just makes you smile when you watch, at least it did for me, and like I said above I really don’t care about the people who say the hated this, as really there isn’t any basis, lighten up tightwads. Anyways, this show will always be memorable to me as it is one of the most fun I’ve ever had watching an anime. Maybe at times it’s not the funniest, although its close, not the best story or hell even character relationships and what not. But it will always remain something that was “fun”.
I of course have to take a moment to talk about Konata. Her character practically exploded from the show and caught everyone’s attention and is now almost as worshiped as Haruhi by some people. One of the things that just makes her so funny to watch and great to see is just that her hobbies pretty much coincide with most people who would be watching anime. I think more then anything it’s just another sense of connection to what’s going on. It’s funny to see someone who resembles the viewer, or the far end of the spectrum, but the same spectrum, as many viewers. And although she is many times more ore less made fun of by mostly Kagami, it’s still funny as it makes jokes of the viewers own problems. It’s the same thing with comedians who tell jokes about themselves or other people, you can relate and laugh about yourself and one of the things that Konata’s character did was provide an outlet for that. However, really shouldn’t have to look that deep into things. For the most part it’s just that her character was fun and was generally the center of many of the jokes which really did make her hilarious to watch.
All I have to say to those who thought this was crap or just dropped it. You missed out. This is one of the best series to come out this year.
I agree, it was fun and I looked forward to it each week. It was kinda of like a game trying to catch all the references and “I do that too” moments. Good stuff, it will be missed.
Definitely one of the strongest points of the series was the slice-of-life moments that everyone can relate to. As you said, the “I totally do that!” reaction is part of what makes the show so fun.
Perhaps it’s not Azumanga Daioh style LOL Seinfeld-esque randomness, but it’s still highly enjoyable. :D
Will be missed, indeed.
I want another season of Lucky Star, just like I want a fourth series with FMP and another season of SHnY.
