When Chikage stumbles across a magic book in her room she uses it to affect the island, turning the humans into animals and vice versa.

Impressions:
I really liked this episode. I thought it was great and it is definitely one of the better episodes of the series so far. Some of the episodes were rather boring, at least some of them before Mei Mei, so I’m glad to see an interesting and funny episode that doesn’t really focus on the new character. Overall this episode was very funny and had a very interesting concept. I just loved the whole plot of the individual episode with everyone turning into animals and vice versa. It was very fun to see everyone in animal form and likewise, interesting to see the animals being human. Although, they don’t really focus too much on the show with the animals, so that part wasn’t really as fun as it could have been. If they would have featured the animals previously a bit more, it would have been more fun to see their human form, but it was still interesting even though they weren’t really very well known characters.
Aside from the episode itself being rather enjoyable, it was really pretty standalone. Nothing happened that would really have an effect on the episodes to come. However, I’ve come to expect that a bit more and more as this show has gone. Still, there have been some episodes lately that seem like they are touching on some topics that may be important near the climax, such as Mei Mei and signs of Suzu showing jealousy. However this episode didn’t really have any of those. But then again, the show really isn’t about overall things. It’s just a fun show to watch and is really just comedy. I don’t think they’d be able to keep it up if they started with any serious talk now, even if the final climax was. So all in all, even without anything that affects overall events, it was really pretty good and in retrospect, the series doesn’t need the serious stuff yet as long as it does a good job with the comedy, which this episode did.
I liked this episode as well, but I did kind of think that it was a bad time to have a stand alone episode, coming right after the events in Episode 16, but oh well. However, the combination of Suzu turning into half-cat, Ayane turning into a half-rabbit, and Tohno and Panako’s human forms gives this episode a thumbs-up.
Ayane pwning Machi for once by throwing her into the magic thing was classic, though.
