Hidamari Sketch - 12 [Final]

Sae’s sister, Chika, comes over for a visit during the girls’ winter break and sees what its like for everyone living alone.

Impressions:

In the end really, this episode wasn’t anything special. Although it was the last episode, the show wasn’t really the kind that had a climax. So although this was the last episode, it wasn’t like other series last episode. It didn’t’ resolve anything, nothing was really important about it. Sure, there was Chika but she was introduced in this episode. All in all, it was a rather self contained episode which is a tad surprising for a last episode, but not really so much for this show. It really was just another regular episode for this series, which made it fit in with everything.

Speaking of Chika, she was a fun character to watch. Although she wasn’t really anything special, it’s always a bit fun to see new characters introduced, even if they aren’t going to stay around. Even if this wasn’t ht e last episode, Chika didn’t really leave the impression of a character that I would really want to see recurring in the show, as she didn’t really add all too much, but she was till an interesting part of this individual episode.

Final Words:

Hidamari Sketch really isn’t anything really memorable. In fact, the show wasn’t really that outstanding. It wasn’t super hilarious; it didn’t have really deep story or even really complex and intriguing character relationships. However, despite not being special at all really, not having anything that really made it stand out, I’m surprised a bit with how much I really loved the show. Again, it’s not really anything special, but her was just something bout the show, some kind of charm, that made it very fun to watch. I just kind of smiled throughout it, not really laughing or anything, but just enjoying it none the less. I don’t watch too many slice of life series, but as far as I can think this really fits in there perfectly. It was just showing rather normal yet fun to watch everyday life of these four girls. Nothing dramatic happened, no one died, there wasn’t really any romance or drama at all, no friendship break ups or anything. It was just peaceful everyday life. While this wouldn’t really seem to be that interesting, it is. Not in the way some other things are interesting, but to the point where, as I’ve said, it’s just fun to watch. It really does have a kind of charm to it. I don’t really think I’ll watch this again, and it’s not really the show you’d recommend to someone, but I will remember it as being fun to watch and really just being very warm and relaxing of a show.

Although not much really happened in the show, the characters were still very impressive and interesting. Not really that there were a whole slew of characters with really weird and quirky things, kind of, still the characters seemed to fit together really nicely. My favorite character of course, hands down, is Yoshinoya. My god she was hilarious and just a joy to watch. I really wish they would have included her in it more. Although she’s no even one of the main characters she still managed to leave an impression. The way she was both childish and adult at the same time, and her obsession with herself and displaying herself in different cosplay was really fun to watch. As far as others characters, they all had their charm I think my next favorite would be Hiro. I loved the whole running bit about her diet and how she seemed to be both air headed and smart and in charge of things at the same time. She wasn’t over the top or anything like Miya but still made some rather amusing observations.

I wish they make a second season. Hidamari Sketch is just such a simple and pleasant anime. I also hope that Shintani fansubs are going to sub the final few eps, I have my doubts regarding the quality of this new group.
