More To The Moon Than Expected

Last week or so I decided to pick some anime to marathon. The odd thing is I have a multitude of anime to watch that I’ve already downloaded. Many series that are highly recommended which I have waiting, but for some reason I decided to try and find a different show to watch. I was going to marathon it over about a week or so, so not a quick burst, in which I would need a long running series. I shifted though lists of different anime and reviews on ANIDB and eventually I came across an anime that of course I knew about, but I hadn’t even considered watching; Sailor Moon.

Now, although I never really watched the show, I’m not an idiot. I’m very aware of what it is, and how poplar it was and so faith. Thinking back to when I was in elementary school and they had anime on Toonami I did watch a few episodes, like maybe a total of six, dubbed and edited. I don’t honestly remember exactly what I thought of it back then. I didn’t really give it a chance. After all I wasn’t into anime as much as I am not at all and the fact that it was aimed towards girls turned me off of it a little bit, because I was fairly young back then. So now that my tastes had matured more and I could appreciate and think about the plot or characters more, I decided to pick it up. Hell, it was just for fun and even if it was super super bad I would have something to make fun of.

I partially decided to pick it up because it was just the genre that is usually not targeted towards me. But after all I loved shows like Nanoha, first two seasons for sure, and many other mahout shoujo shows. Since this fell into that category, I picked it up. I really have realized that from watching all the shows in its genre, that despite what it may be targeted to, I really enjoy watching it which is part of what made this show fun to watch. I’ve watched about a total of twenty episodes of the first season as I’m writing this, so far only the first three sailor scouts have been introduced, so no Jupiter yet. Still, although the show is still so early, considering how many episodes are in a season and total, it’s already got me hooked in. The plot isn’t even really super interesting yet as it is looking to become, but I want to watch more. It’s hard to explain why I like the show. I really just watched it at first for the hell of it but really, and I don’t really feel ashamed to say this, I love the show so far. Now maybe it’s not in the same why that I like and appreciate other shows but there is just something fun and interesting about this. I don’t really feel like I’m trying to defend it either because as I said I’m just watching the show for fun and a lot of my appreciation for the show is just that, it being fun to watch. In that since I’m not saying how some character development of plot undertones or anything is present in the show. It’s not great in the same way some other shows are, but still I like it all the same.

I’m not saying I’m completely endorsing every aspect of this show. Although I have really grown to like it, I still take a lot of fun in kind of poking fun at parts of it. Although I can forgive parts and such, one thing that I continually think is funny and probably won’t really get over is how no one seems to be able to tell the characters are the sailor scouts, even though their uniforms don’t hide any distinguishable characters like their face or hair. The look pretty much the same, except with fewer clothes on basically. Although it wouldn’t really be any fun if it was super realistic, it’s still fairly interesting. Tuxedo Kamen isn’t as bad, as he does cover up hi face a bit and his hat helps hide his hair. Although, even with that one of the parts I’ve seen so far that I couldn’t believe is how Rei actually guessed that Mamoru was Tuxedo Kamen right from the start. She saw Tuxedo Kamen once and then the instant she met Mamoru she said how he looks like Tuxedo Kamen. I couldn’t believe they pointed that out.

All in all I’m not saying how this is the greatest show ever. However I thought that I should watch it because of how iconic it is and to just kill time. Really, the point is that although I haven’t even gotten too far in it, I don’t hate it. It’s not the best, but really its much much more then I could have ever expected and when it comes down to it, I really do like the show. It has a kind of nostalgia to it, which really makes it fun to watch.

There’s no way I’d have time to do episode posts for this show, as really I don’t think it would be very interesting but I will have an occasional post about what I think of the series, perhaps a post after each season.

Sailor Moon is good (I *love* the transformations), despite what other people may say.

Another one bites the dust XD

Wonderful to see another person truly discover this series… The magic of it has always been the slight silliness to it to me =P

Well I can remember some of it. With a younger sister it’s something that would be on during the lunch break. Thinking back that could be one of the first anime I ever saw some of. After a few years I’ve checked it out to the finish, not bad even with some minor issues.
