Nagasarete Airantou - 10

On a rainy day on the island, no one can go out to work so Suzu and Ikuto are stuck in the house alone with nothing to do, causing Ikuto to lean about what happened to Suzu’s parents.

Impressions:

I found this episode to be quite interesting. It was a bit different form the other episodes that they have shown before, focusing on a bit more of a serious topic then complete comedy. Not to say there wasn’t comedy, there was and it was good too. I loved the bit where all the girls were over and they all just took their clothes off at the same time, freaking Ikuto out, and I still say Machi is one of the best characters as every scene she is in is pretty funny. There were great moments in this episode but there was still a very heavy focus on the serious issue of Suzu being lonely since she basically doesn’t have any parents and lives alone. Although that’s since changed, it’s still a serious issue of her feeling abandoned like that and I think it’s good that they talked about it. Of course they can’t have her parents around to make some of the things they do in the show realistic, but if they had ignored the impact of that it would have eventually hurt the show I think. I do wish that the show would stay focused on the comedy, as I think that’s where it gets a lot of its quality from. If they do too much of the focus on serious stuff it will hurt it, but every now and then an episode like this is good. Just keep the focus on the comedy though.

As this episode showed, there is plenty of room for some more serious things. Originally, I had dismissed most of my thoughts and theories for some serious things that could take place just because of the way thee show was being handled. Not that it was bad, in fact I loved the comedy they did, however it seemed like the show would continue to be focused on the comedy. There are quite a lot of serious things that could happen and I think they episode showed that there is still a chance for them to happen. Topics such as an actual romance relationship between the characters, most definitely Suzu and Ikuto, and then the whole topic of leaving the island or not are still there. First off they’ve shown that there is some potential for a relationship just because of their situation but Suzu has seemed so oblivious to things that it’s made it impossible. However I think they may be able to turn it around given recent things such as Suzu maybe showing jealousy during the Rin episode, the bit with her mother saying she will find a man, and then some of the closeness we saw here. Another topic that I’m really interested to see if they explore is leaving the island. They talked about it in a huge stride this episode, but dismissed it. If the whirlpools are weak during a storm that leaves plenty of leeway for them to say there is a way for Ikuto to get off the island. However if an event like that occurs I think it will be interesting to see them have some seriousness and drama behind if she should go or not, doing the tad clichéd bit but still interesting of him choosing to stay there instead of return home. So there are plenty of ways for them to have serious focuses in this show, and I think that this episode showed that they can have them, despite the regular focus on comedy.
