Kanda is on his way to a village, where he is to meet up with someone in order to protect one of the Generals, when he winds up getting caught in the strange events of a town along the way.

Impressions:
Finally we get some Kanda involvement. I know I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again, Kanda is one of the most under developed characters in the series, which is really unfitting. He is one of the original exorcists, at least one that was there when Allen was, yet he doesn’t get much involvement. Even Crowley and Miranda, who came after him have more advancement. They’ve been featured more in the episodes they’ve appeared on, and there is just generally more information about them. Now it’s all well and good for a character to be mysterious, and that seems to be what Kanda has going for him, but there is definitely a difference between mysterious and not even talked about. Kanda has a lot of things going that could make him a great character, but they haven’t done much with it. I just really hope after this episode they don’t just throw him in the trash again for another twenty episodes or so. I’m really curious as to what the hell the whole lotus flower thing was. I wondered about it when I saw it in the OP, but they actually showed the glass thing in Kanda’s room. What the hell is this, some Beauty and the Beast thing? Either that or its some reference to his age. I don’t know how old he is, because since he’s an exorcist it could easily be much older then his appearance, so I almost go the impression he is 1000, since that’s how long it takes for them to bloom, but I could be way off there. I really don’t know, I just know there is something up and I really want to know what.
Aside from the much needed Kanda development, this episode was really a bit of a disappointment. When I first looked at the progress of how much time was left I was shocked. Really when looking at this episode very little actually happened, and it is a bit of a waste. I know this is a two part episode and everything, but I bet they could have easily made this a one episode arc. All that happened here was that Kanda arrived at a village, realized a girl was suspicious, and followed a trail mysteriously. Hell, half the episode could easily be taken out, and I’m sure there are bits they could replace next episode to make this whole arc work equally good in half the time. I guess it’s not too bad, but it is a bit disheartening when they have a two part episode, something that has great potential for something really interesting and exciting to happen, and then they have pretty much nothing happen. The only benefit this episode did was just set up for the next episode, so they don’t’ have to waste ten minutes or so, and that’s a great thing. A lot of other episodes need that little boost, but I think it could have done a bit more as well.
