Hayate no Gotoku - 07

Hayate gets to know the situation between Wataru and Nagi, and tries to help Wataru out by winning over Isumi.

Impressions:

I really don’t have anything bad to say about this show. This has been one of the few this season that has continually been pretty much the same as far as enjoyment and quality of episodes go. It doesn’t really have any ups or downs, just a pretty steady flow. Now, there aren’t any of those really really exciting or mysterious moments, because it’s not really the kind of show that has a plot like that. Still, it manages to work even without those moments. I loved the whole thing where Nagi thought Hayate was mad about the fiancé thing when he wasn’t at all and was very cheerful. The whole “What Nagi saw” was hilarious and after he made a cheerful comment she noted how furious he sounds.

The characters are probably the biggest contributor to this series’ success. Characters are always important in a lot of other shows, but this show really doesn’t have anything you can pinpoint besides characters that could contribute to it being so good. It doesn’t really have any relationships. There are some there but they aren’t a central focus. There are no in depth and serious touching back-stories, and there isn’t really any plot. I was a bit skeptic when they started to introduce so many characters at once, as I wasn’t quite sure how hell it would turn out. Too many characters means they can’t focus on any one of them, and things will get to spread out to be any good. But with the show not even trying to go for the serious development of the characters, the more they have seem to be better because they can just throw in briefly a character that would make the situation even funnier.

I don’t really dislike Wataru as much as I did last episode. Before I didn’t really like him. He seemed like he was just solely some jerk, and the fact that there may have been some roadblock between Nagi and Hayate, well I didn’t like that since as I’ve displayed before I like romantic relationship advancement between characters. Still, he really redeemed himself in this episode when he showed more about what the story behind him was. Now, like I said above there isn’t some really huge and touching back-story, but that’s fine. I think him trying to get Isumi when she is totally clueless is a good set up for him, making him seem less of a jerk and taking him out, for the most part, of a competition for Nagi as neither one wants the marriage, unlike some other arranged marriage dilemma in anime where one side still wants it.

I’m waiting for the next episode, which should have Trap Hayate in it. Hopefully it will be fun. :P
