It’s time of the school sports festival, but because of the weather it’s delayed, leaving the girls with nothing to do.

Impressions:
This episode, for the most part, was pretty much the same as the other episodes. This show has really kept a very nice theme and pace of just showing some funny and normal slice of life type situations. There hasn’t’ really been any actual plot or even serious problem to get over, which is fine. This show is perfect at being a slice of life show. However this episode was a bit different in that it actually did have an event or a problem they were trying to solve. Not that it was something big or anything, no one got diagnosed with terminal cancer or anything like that as far as real life situations for a slice of life show goes, but the sports festival was a bit of a change in what the show normally showed. Although nothing big and not really anything new to school oriented shows, it was still one of the first events and problems they had. The worse they had before was Hiro thinking she was fat. To add onto this, this episode is actually a two parter, as they didn’t even actually do the sports festival. I’m just surprised that they had it split up; as it shows that they really are for the first time putting an emphasis on an actual event. I had just assumed they would keep up the relaxing pace throughout the show, even near the end.
The other little bit of drama was that Sae got a letter in the package from her mom. She seemed rather distressed about it and said how “she’s” coming which could be her mother since she did send the note and the package, or just be someone else that her mother is telling her is coming. Either way, they didn’t’ really touch on it at all, and for this show it seems a bit odd they would have something like that and not elaborate on it later. The preview even suggests that something is up so we may see a rather interesting change in pace a bit for this show, with the sports festival and then whatever drama or event is happening regarding “her” coming over.
Again though, even with the start of some real events happening, the show really thrives on the small things. I loved how everyone was just staring at the bucket of water, and then their dealing with the allegedly explosive packages that would burn if they got it. I loved that they addressed that as a paradox, saying if they threw it in the rain, would it burn, since it getting wet would put the fire out caused by it getting wet. I also really liked the subbers comment when they showed the box cutter, saying how they shouldn’t let Hiro get near it, since of course Hiro is voiced by the seiyuu who did Kaede.
