After her encounter with Lucif, Lucia prepares herself for the battle ahead when Lucif says he will come back soon with Sumire, making the two girls fight for who will attain the power of a god.

Impressions:
WHAT THE HELL? What kind of ending was that!? That wasn’t an ending at all, they just poof stopped the show, my god there was like no closure at all. Now, I know that a lot of anime leave some things open ended so that the viewer can kind of interpret things their own way, but this show ended things incredibly open ended. I don’t think I’ve seen many shows that leave this much to ones own interpretation. It’s really shocking. I wasn’t expecting this at all. I started to worry about the end when I saw there wasn’t much time left, but ignored my concern. Then when the end came I was still wide eyed. I had started to guess that it would be left a bit open ended, but not hat much. Although honestly if you really look at it there’s not too much that can go either way, to me at least it seems obvious what happens with the core things. After all, it would really be a shitty ending if Lucia or Sumire died and then all of sudden one became a god and destroyed the current world. That would just be….bad. I think that Lucia more then likely succeeded in purging evil form Sumire or whatever and everything went back to being happy, Sumire, Lucia, Lola and I guess Lyla too go on to a normal life, perhaps now without fighting viruses and having it be really normal. The one thing that was the most confusing is what the hell happened with the memory loss. Everyone at school forgot Sumire to the point the shy guy has a crush on someone different. If everything went back to normal, it seems like something not fixed as easily for everyone’s memories to return. Perhaps their memories would return but I think I would make more sense for them not to, which would mean Sumire would have to start over at school and remake her friends, which isn’t really all that bad, but still an odd unexplained hole.
I thought it was pretty damn cool that Lola actually did something very important in this episode. They still never really explained what the hell she and Lyla were, or what the hell they were doing, but I can live with that. It’s pretty much because of Lola that everything didn’t go boom and that Lucif didn’t survive or do worse to the world. She pretty much killed him by, from my understanding, using magic to bring back Nahashi and Lilith as ghosts or something. It seemed a bit odd that Lyla all of a sudden said yeah ok, let’s do something. She didn’t do crap but all of a sudden she’s going to be on the good side? That part was a little bit strange, but so was the fact there wasn’t an ending. Oh well, I guess in my view of what happened she stays with everyone and Lyla becomes a helper or a random persona like Lola was. Or hell, they could both die and disappear since they were weird dolls, although that wouldn’t be fair to Sumire and Lucia for their other remaining friend and companion to die as well.
Speaking of people dieing, I thought it was a bit surprising that Nahashi actually died and stayed dead. I was expecting him to either come back or actually be fine from a hand being plunged into his heart….yeah. But I’m glad they kept him dead. Its not that I hate him or anything, but I think that a show is much more interesting if the people who die stay dead. It actually gives their death a sense of sacrifice. If they die protecting something or something like that, and then they are brought back later it makes the weight of that they did less big. I was a bit worried when he was alive in Lola’s arms for a while, but I’m glad he eventually kicked the bucket. Coming back as a ghost to help at the end was fine, as its not like he came back for good and it was kind of cool seeing him and Lilith help out like that.
Final Words:
The one thing that I can’t help but say is that I think that people gave up on this show way too quick. There were a lot of people who after the third episode or so just gave up on it because it was rather boring and repetitive, to which I say yeah, it was. The beginning of the show was horrible really, as it was just random fights with ugly monsters, with no seemingly explanation or further goal. However, the show soon just exploded with plot a little bit in, and the good second half of the series was pretty interesting. Now, I’m not saying that the second half by itself was the best anime or anything like that, or that it make sup for the first half, but I certainly think that there was something to be missed by just leaving the show so on. I still think the show could have had a better beginning. I like the show but I’m not going to just needlessly defend it in places. The beginning was rather pointless, even after the rest of the show was revealed. Hell, I still don’t understand what the hell viruses had to do with ANY of the later plot. It was all about Lucif trying to attain a new world and destroying the old one though possession of fragments. Now, I think there could be a connection between fragments and viruses, but they never even began to remotely explain it, and it didn’t really matter because it didn’t’ seem like anything that would be interesting in knowing. I do suppose they had to have something to fill the beginning of the show with, as it may be a bit hard to just jump into the plot right away, but they probably could have done better because it really hurt it.
One of the things that was really interesting throughout the show, and was probably the best part of the show was the relationship between Sumire and Lucia. Its hard to explain, as there are parts of the dynamic of their relationship that had been done before, their situation nothing super uniquely new or anything, yet it still felt fresh and fun to watch a bit. It was more then just the two of them being a bit opposite, one knowing a lot about fighting, the other caring about things like arranging flowers and baking food. That’s nothing new at all, yet there still seemed to be something between them that made everything a bit more interesting to watch. Almost the way they cared about each other, or how they both looked up to each other. There wasn’t really anything yuri going on there, but that’s not the point or what it was trying to be. Again it’s hard to explain exactly, but it was just a really cool thing to watch, the two of the interacting was a lot more vital to the show then it would first seem to be. Overall though I think the combination of their relationship and then the plot in the second half of this show really did make things very interesting. It wasn’t the best show by far, there were a lot of things that were unexplained hurt the show, such as where these element using boy and girl came from, why they have powers, if they are dolls as well that Lucif just made. If so, why didn’t they know who he was at first? Anyways, not to point out everything, there were some bad points, however I think the second half of the plot was interesting enough to keep it rather enjoyable to watch at the end, making for the overall bad parts to not matter as much.
I thought Lyla and Lola were mud golems (and probably powered by a soul fragment like the others) because they were described as “Souless dolls” in the flashback to 15 years before. I also don’t think that Lyla and Lola survived the blast, getting the ghosts to hold down Lucif so he couldn’t protect himself from the Lucia/Sumire nuke… if he didn’t survive how could they?
As for fragments, my thoughts are: 1) Viruses like to eat people who can see viruses. 2) When you remove the fragment/soul from a person, they become a virus. Lucia said that once that once a person is a virus, there’s no going back to being human. 3) Viruses are invisible to people who don’t have fragments.
From the above, I think that viruses are just an other way of saying ghost or spirit. Considering the number of “people” viruses, lucif was very busy.
At least, that’s my theory.
Well.. i think Sumire probably died, because at the start of 12 episode, Lucia wake up,
and she wasn’t around, Lucia watched at the flowers.. so sad, but she propaby died..
but i still think she didn’t died, ‘cuz that way i feel better !
I think you have things confused. The beginning of episode 12 wasn’t the very end. Lucia only flashed back briefly, the whole encounter with Sumire in the snow place was all in real time. She was just sad that she was currently with Lucif at the time.
I nominate this animé for the crappiest ending ever award.
Actually the last scene in the bedroom there is a photo with Lucia and Sumire together, it’s not in any of the scene before. The yellow light that kills off Lucif must have save Sumire as well. The picture indicated that Lucia and Sumire is the two left in the story and they are together. My guess.
the guess you can say that the ending was very ambiguous. but as for my thoughts, i believed that everyone died. both lucia and sumeire died together. since lucia said, “i would not want to destroy this word, because you and i live in it” basically, this world did have some good in it. she was able to meet her. so in the end, she chose to kill both of them instead. that way, they wouldnt have to fight each other and destroy the world.
