Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight - 08

The news of Seioh’s school merger and the announcement that the school fair is cancelled has Manabi outraged as she tires to fight the superintendent to bring back the fair.

Impressions:

Omfg, wow. This episode had one of the funniest moments that I had ever experienced period. Wow, the part where they were talking about revolt and Mikan was like shaking and yelled in a kind of deep and serious voice, “LETS TAKE THEM DOWN!!” it was just so fucking hilarious. I had to pause it for a minute awhile I was laughing my head off. I then re-watched it and I was stupidly drinking something, even a second time I laughed so damn hard that I nearly chocked. I must have watched the short clip of her yelling a dozen times and slaughtered so damn hard. It wasn’t really what she said or even the circumstances of the moment, just the way she said it made is so damn hilarious, I’m still laughing just thinking about it while writing this. Mikan is just such a timid and shy character; she was like bloodthirsty in that scene. She could have gone up against those Persians with the Spartans in 300 with the resolve she showed there. Just wow, one of the funniest moments I have ever witnessed. It’s hard to explain, you just have to watch it to really get it.

Ok, aside from crazed pseudo loli power, this episode was pretty interesting. Except for that Mikan bit and a couple other parts, this episode was pretty much focused on the drama about the merging of the schools and the cancellation of the School Fair. I’m really interested to see how this plays out, as given this is only a twelve episode series that leaves four more. I’m just saying that for Xeby’s sake cause she’s too stupid to do math. Anyways, it seems like the whole drama and dilemma of the school merger and the fair will continue to be the final point of interest in this series. I’m still a bit surprised at how much this show has made me care about what happens. The first couple of episodes did a wondrous job of really making me care about the characters and the school, and now that they are threatening to merge them I’m really anxious to find out what’s going to happen. I don’t want them to close Seioh; I have school spirit for an all girl’s school that isn’t real. And even though I really want to know what happens, I hope the schools don’t merge, I also hope they don’t get too focused on that. They need to get a good balance of figuring out and progressing the plot of the merger but keeping in the funny moments. This episode had some really great ones, but was mostly focused elsewhere. That’s ok, just I hope they don’t continue or start focusing even more on JUST that.

I thought the bit about Manabi’s brother dating the superintendent very interesting. I didn’t’ see that coming at all but I also don’t’ really see that having a huge effect on the outcome of the situation. It may a little bit, as what he told her about Manabi needing school or whatever seemed to get her interested. I suppose it brings the superintendent more down to an accessible level instead of some high power that screws everyone over. It will be interesting to see if that relationship has any more influence on what’s happening. I thought it was funny how Mikan thought it was romantic they met at an astrophysics convention or conference.
