When a new student, who is an idol, transfers to Riku’s class and reveals she, was childhood friends with Riku, it causes Mina and Tsukasa to step up and fight for Riku.
I really liked this episode. It seemed to break away a bit form some of the things that made the other episodes meaningless or too silly to make an impression. This episode I thought did a great job of showing things that I had hoped from this. It was more then just a funny episode. It had plenty of humor in it; I found Yukari’s character to be enjoyable and funny to watch. From the preview I knew there would be a new character but I didn’t’ expect her to know Riku. However things worked out really well. However the one thing that made this episode great wasn’t Yukari, but Sayuri. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it many times in the future of this show but I hope Riku ends up with someone other then Sayuri. I think the show gets a bit more interesting if the guy doesn’t end up with who many would consider the main girl, which would be Sayuri in this one. However I wont hate it if/when he ends up with her, especially if they give her some development like they did in this episode. This episode seemed to give Sayuri a huge character development, even more so then the episode where she freaked out. She didn’t really make any realization there or show us anything new, things got resolved, however Yukari’ s appearance in this episode seemed to mainly spur proof of Sayuri’s feelings. She only acted when Sayuri was around which seemed to make Sayuri a bit jealous, not to mention the bit at the end where Yukari told Sayuri about making Riku her boyfriend. Sayuri blushed at that and Yukari wouldn’t have any reason to say that if she didn’t know that Sayuri liked Riku too, so it will be interesting to see if we see any more of that soon.
I don’t really think that we will see Yukari again. If we do it wont’ be an important part at all. Which is a bit unexpected, when I first saw from the last episode preview that there was someone new I thought they would have their own episode like this one and then stay around, however Yukari leaving leads me to believe that she was just there for other characters’, like Sayuri, character advancement. I don’t know which I would have preferred though. With her gone there leaves more room for any advancement between the characters we are more accustomed to, which would make things better. IF she was there then even if she didn’t have character development her screen time would take away from the more established characters. However I really did like her character, I thought she was cute and her personality was funny. Kind of like a self aware tsundere, being either way on her choice not just controlled by her emotions. I don’t know, maybe that doesn’t make sense but I didn’t mind her character too much.
