Yeah, in the game you can really only have one girl have a happy ending, however in Toei's version basically everyone had one. I like that they did that, it may be interesting to read about how the endings differ but I think for the anime its best that every girl except the chosen one doesn't get screwed. Of course there will still be in the anime, both versions, one girl who ends up with Yuuichi. I like that they dont have to make the others suffer too.

Spoiler ahead:

Well supposely Shiori isn't suppose to be cured all of the sudden, the original setting was that Ayu in the end of Shiori's arc, sacrificed her last wish to save Shiori so Yuuichi will not suffer another lost of ones he loved after losing Ayu already. And of course, both KyoA and Toei cant have that... Ayu is the default #1 hereoine according to KEY, so its beyond their reach to compromise with it. Note: the same goes for Nayuki's arc, Ayu used her last wish to save Akiko so Nayuki and probably Yuuichi wont be despair.

Personally I found Shiori's Bad End more saddening, where Shiori never return and Yuuchi pondering about their happy memories alone in his class in the following year (Nayuki was assigned to a different homeroom, and Kaori transferred to another school). Sad not for Shiori's death, but the lonely atmosphere.

Well, again they cant have that either LOL.
