Yuuichi spends some time with Shiori and gets to know more about her, leading to Yuuichi finding out the real truth about Shiori’s condition.

Impressions:
Wow, this episode again was amazing. I can’t believe how well done the Shiori bit near the end was done. There were so many scenes where the lighting and the snow falling made the scene just absolutely beautiful. Not to mention touching and emotional. All throughout the scene where Yuuichi was just going different places and having fun with Shiori I found it really sweet and touching, fun to watch and because of Shiori’s character just enjoyable. Then at the end, even though I know what’s going to happen from watching the previous series the scene at the end was already incredibly emotional. They didn’t even get into the arc yet very much and just the way that Kaori said the truth about Shiori, the scene just blew me away both in beauty and content. They did an excellent job showing why Kaori had basically ignored her sister and also making us feel for her, not just think she was a horrible person for it or anything like that.
This episode showed a lot of Nayuki along with Shiori it seemed. Although we got some hints at this before, this episode had a lot of Nayuki seeming lonely or jealous of Yuuichi not spending time with her. Although I doubt they will expand on this until Nayuki’s arc near the end, I think the little hints along the way re really neat. It makes her arc when they come to it less of a shock, building up to it makes it feel like her arc has been going though most of the series. So far they’ve done a great job of showing it just enough to be subtle but get the point across, and not too much to take the focus off of the main arc that is going on, which right now would be Shiori.
Spoilers:
There was quite a big Ayu foreshadowing in this episode. When they were in the hospital, not only did Ayu say that she didn’t’ like hospitals, which by itself isn’t likely to be anything big because as Yuuichi said most people don’t like hospitals. However the doctor/nurse who came by seemed to recognize Ayu. Of course that has to set off something in anyone’s head that SOMETHING is up from the fact it had no purpose unless there was something behind it. Since Ayu is in a comma the nurse has likely seen her comatose and was just confused to see her up and about.
As for Shiori, not much I can say. I just really hope that this ending is the same as the other. Although it was a little bit weird that Shiori’s illness was suddenly cured, I think it fit the tone of the arc. There was a bunch of talk about miracles and that was what Shiori’s arc boiled down to. Even though she does end up living Shiori’s arc was one of the two saddest arcs in the previous series. I was amazed at how emotional it was without her dieing so I think as long as KyoAni does a good job, which lets face it, they will, the arc will be amazing and emotional without her dieing.
Spoiler ahead:
Well supposely Shiori isn’t suppose to be cured all of the sudden, the original setting was that Ayu in the end of Shiori’s arc, sacrificed her last wish to save Shiori so Yuuichi will not suffer another lost of ones he loved after losing Ayu already. And of course, both KyoA and Toei cant have that… Ayu is the default #1 hereoine according to KEY, so its beyond their reach to compromise with it. Note: the same goes for Nayuki’s arc, Ayu used her last wish to save Akiko so Nayuki and probably Yuuichi wont be despair.
Personally I found Shiori’s Bad End more saddening, where Shiori never return and Yuuchi pondering about their happy memories alone in his class in the following year (Nayuki was assigned to a different homeroom, and Kaori transferred to another school). Sad not for Shiori’s death, but the lonely atmosphere.
Well, again they cant have that either LOL.
Yeah, in the game you can really only have one girl have a happy ending, however in Toei’s version basically everyone had one. I like that they did that, it may be interesting to read about how the endings differ but I think for the anime its best that every girl except the chosen one doesn’t get screwed. Of course there will still be in the anime, both versions, one girl who ends up with Yuuichi. I like that they dont have to make the others suffer too.
