Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru - 12 [Final]

Mizuho tries to deal with Takako having found out about his identity, and prepares for the dance festival which he has decided will be his last act at the school.

Impressions:

This episode was great. It was a perfect end to a really great and fairly original series. Although I guess it could be say that in the end Mizuho didn’t “end up” with anyone, I still think that they handled the situation and romantic tensions regarding Takako’s feelings for Mizuho rather well. Of course we didn’t see them actually end up in a relationship, that’s not what I really meant when I hoped he would end up with someone as it would be rather hard to show that in the last two minutes of an episode. We basically got Takao admitting that she loves Mizuho, and almost said it directly to him so that shows that there is still the possibility of something between them even though the series is finished. It even showed in the credits some small moments, one of which they were eating together so now it has become more of a classic case where Takako has feelings just can’t admit them yet so she spends her time with Mizuho. Again, yeah sure they can’t really be a couple in public or anything like that but at lest there is a chance of a relationship between them, whether it goes only as far as Takako admitting feelings or just waits until the one year or so they have left in school is over.

It was really cool how they summed up Kana and Yukari’s characters when they were dancing with Mizuho. Although they had already given them arcs and their problems were concluded there, during the dance they basically summarized what she really has done for all of them, emotionally as well which I thought was really cool and rather touching. It really showed the extent to how the characters interacted which was enjoyable to see in this show.

One of the smaller things that I though was exceptionally cool was Kana’s story about the drama club’s next performance. Obviously as you saw it matched up with what was going on between Mizuho and Takako. I thought that was so cool because it was almost like narrating it but in a different way. Not only did it just match up, but it provided a metaphor for what was happening which I thought fit perfectly.

Spoilers:

Despite its plot, characters, sound or any other normally critically considered aspect of an anime, there is no doubt that the foremost thing that will be remembered about this show is “Mizuho the Trap” Although in the same season which this aired we got other traps such as Jun from Happiness, Mizuho was definitely the most prominent. HE was an incredibly hot GIRL. That is just an odd statement and arose in many people the moral question of how wrong or not it was to be attracted to a guy if he was dressed as a girl. You can probably ask Kurogane about has theory but that’s not what I’m really getting into here. Despite the other things about this anime OtoBoku brought up question in us that hadn’t really had to be contemplated before.

Despite any appeal that OtoBoku had because of traps, it was a very interesting show. Although the cross-dressing topic had been addressed before, this show didn’t’ seem stale compared to those shows. One thing that was very surprising about the series was for a good half of the series they hardly even addressed the issue of Mizuho being a guy. They focused on the characters. It was half dealing with Mizuho being a guy amongst an all girls school and the other half was just about Mizuho, the other characters, and trying to help them with their problems, expanding on the relationships that Mizuho had with all the people around him. It was very interesting to watch, and although some of the topics addressed when just dealing with the side characters may have been a bit clichéd or predictable, the characters were still interesting enough to keep the show enjoyable.

Still don’t understand the motivation. I mean, the whole “grandfather’s last wish to follow mother’s path” thing still boggles the mind, but this ending leaves me completely confused, and I would not be surprised to see a complete turnaround come whenever the OVA comes out and we find out he likes Mariya now and/or that Shion’s a man, or something. We are shown Mizuho learned to be more self-reliant - but mainly this only relates to cross-dressing. I guess he’s more open with people. It’s a little disappointing because the show nails every other area as reflected in Xebek’s comments (situation/tensions, romantic & otherwise).

And the placement of the diploma tube on the desk. He left? Stayed? So confusing. Still hoping to be surprised by the OVA, though.

heh, more like 5% of the series was dedicated to Mizuho being a guy rather than 50% IMO

I think that the ending was fine in terms of showing who he likes. It didn’t say that Mizuho liked Takako or anything so a switch over to Mairya in any OVA wouldn’t necisarily be bad. As for the diploma I can only assume he stayed or the diploma woudln’t be there. The ending couldn’t have covered everything from the year they left off to and think the open ending this had wasn’t bad, it didn’t really leave anything untouched.

They dealt with Mariya and Takako’s feelings both so for any OVA or contnuation either eway would work out.

In the wikipedia ,it’s writen that there is a OVA for this year …
And in my opinion would be very cliche if he end up with mariya and in the case of shion they look more an normal friends than a possible couple.
And takako has a lot more chances than anyone there … of course , everything is my opinion.
Episode 10-11 we watched the fellings of Mariya but in the whole anime was Takako who showed more her fellings .
I really think she has a high probabilty to end up with Mizuho and i hope for that ^-^
