Yuuichi tries to help Mai out of the situation she got herself into because of the events at the dance festival, later fighting with Mai because he doesn’t believe she grasps how much he and Sayuri care for her.

Impressions:
This episode was interesting mostly because of the character development. Not nearly as much excitement or plot development as last episode had, but there was a lot of character involvement and advancement. Particularly between Yuuichi and Mai of course. The whole bit where Yuuichi was screaming at Mai was amazingly done. I think him saying all those things really does summarize what the situation is between them. Their relationship is so interesting and the way they explained it was great. It showed some real emotions which is one of the things that this series does exceptionally well.
One of the main things I was oddly pleasantly surprised with in this episode was Kita. Previously, I didn’t really like his character. This version’s Kita was much more annoying. However I thought it was so cool that Kita helped out in defending Mai. If it wasn’t for him then Yuuichi’s excuse would have been thrown out the window and Mai would have been in a lot more trouble. IN the previous version the way Mai got out of trouble was Sayuri joined the student council, because the president always said how he wanted her in, but she refused, she later joined in order to save Mai. Although it looks like that is no where to be found in this version, I kind of like that they used Kita. It makes him not so much a worthless annoying character.
Spoilers:
OMFG! When Mai was talking about Ayu in this episode I absolutely freaked out. I don’t know why, but it seems like Mai knows about Ayu completely. In the previous series she didn’t know a damn thing about Makoto or Ayu or anything like that. However not only did she show she knew a bit about Makoto, but now there is HUGE development about Ayu. I couldn’t believe it. She said how she wouldn’t be able to wait that long, Ayu is a strong girl. She’s been waiting all this time. That’s the whole point of Ayu’s arc. Ayu fell from the tree, and went into a coma. She was then waiting for Yuuichi to return because it was one of the wishes he made on the doll I think that he would see Ayu again or something along the line. The whole waiting thing is critical and Mai just openly talked about it out of nowhere. It was really neat to see that I think.
They also mentioned in this episode, hinting at Yuuichi meeting Mai long ago. Mai said how she had a close best friend long ago but HE moved away. It’s so obvious its Yuuichi even if you haven’t watched the other series from the fact that it’s a guy and that Yuuichi used to live in this town but moved away. Not as obvious however is that this is why the monsters are after him. Mai is the one creating the demons, although she doesn’t know it I guess. The monsters are drawn to Yuuichi because of his connection to Mai in the past, because the monsters spring form a sense of abandonment or being alone. It was something along those lines, honestly they didn’t’ explain it well in the last version so hopefully they will here.
