Kanon Remake - 12

Yuuichi goes to the huge ball with Mai and Sayuri, trying to improve Mai’s image when things go wrong.

Impressions:

KyoAni are GODS! Seriously, I’ve watched the previous series two times, and the Mai scene NEVER made me as excited as this one did. The remake has just been outstanding and the whole ball scene itself was just jaw droopingly better, I can’t believe it. This episode in its entirety was outstanding. Thought the whole episode I was so excited. I think it’s mainly because I watched the first series. Many would say that watching the previous series would make watching the remake less enjoyable because you know what would happen. Now, I can’t really judge that but so far from seeing the previous series it has made me almost more excited I think. It’s seeing things come together that is so amazing. When Yuuichi found out Shiori’s other name and confronted Kaori, the doll scene, Mai’s scene with the demons. I knew they were eventually coming, but because it is truly a remake seeing them in a little bit new way was so exciting. It got to that part and I almost screamed a couple of times, YES! Because I was waiting for that scene and loved it.

I liked the Ayu and Shiori advancement during Mai’s arc. They didn’t show too much, but they did a much better job then they did in the Makoto arc. Before, the Makoto arc finished without even beginning anyone else’s arc. Here though, in the middle of the Mai arc we get a little bit of the remaining arcs.

Again this series seems to excel at some of the small stuff. The whole Honey bear and chubby raccoon thing was hilarious. Although not important to the story at all, it was just a small thing that was really hilarious I thought. Same about the flashback with Nayuki, when he was asking money and increased it when she said no instead of logically decreasing it.

Spoilers:

There was a lot of Ayu advancement in this episode, but only on the subtle foreshadowing kind. First of all Ayu said she was scared of heights. Now, I don’t remember her every saying that in the first series but the fact that she almost and basically died from falling makes sense that her spirit would be scared of heights. They also mentioned Ayu’s school. Although it isn’t a real school, the school she described was the school that she and Yuuichi made up when they were kids because they wanted to be together. It’s the tree where she fell.

The doll that Yuuichi gave Ayu in the flashback was an awesome addition. It’s a pretty damn important piece of information and event, although they did a good job of making it rather subtle. The one thing I’m a little bit bothered by is so far they haven’t mentioned that the doll has any wishes on it. In the previous series the HUGE part of the doll was that Yuuichi said it had three wishes on it. The first two wishes were just small innocent things, but the third one was important because Ayu never made it. Yuuichi found it after Ayu’s spirit disappeared, and Ayu came back to him as an angel and told him that her final wish was for Yuuichi to forget about her. That’s huge, and without the whole wish thing Ayu’s whole arc will be screwed. I just hope they mention it still, even if it’s too late to introduce it at the same point the previous series did.
