Kanon Remake - 10

Yuuichi spends all of his time with Makoto, who’s condition has worsened to her not being able to speak anymore, causing her to act less and less like a human.

Impressions:

Wow, this episode was incredibly emotional. Although I didn’t cry that may have been because I knew what was coming from having watched the previous series, even knowing all the events such as the picture and spending time. Even with that however it was still very emotional and it was incredibly sad. I think that one of the reasons that it is so sad is just because of how great a job they have done with Makoto’s character. I mean, they continually showed her going form hating Yuuichi to being adorable and making you really feel for her. I think one of the things that led to such success in character development is just that it started with Makoto being the center of a lot of the comedy. All of the pranks she did or tried to do were very funny when they didn’t go though and although they didn’t directly relate to Makoto’s character, I think they concluded her enough in events that people really like Makoto and her personality. Making us love her so much made it all the more emotional when she disappeared.

The other part of this episode that I loved was Nayuki. They are giving her a lot of screen time and I think that some of her emotions and feelings are really starting to show. Although they only show her as a background character during Makoto’s arc, I’m guessing it will be very similar during Shiori and Mai’s arcs as well, however I think all this showing her constantly is a bit good for her character, because we are seeing some jealous arise and I think if they show all these things building up slowly it will be a bit better then if it is all of a sudden brought on.

The Mai arc seems to be next, which is great because I love Mai’s character and her arc is probably one of my top three out of Nayuki, Makoto, Shiori, Mai, and Ayu. They show what I had previously worried about. Earlier when they showed Mai and the monster attacking, there were no broken windows but in the preview of the next episode it does mention how Mai is thought of as a delinquent or as the preview said she is pretty popular, and showed a broken window. So here’s to hoping they do Mai’s arc as excellently as they did Makoto.

Spoilers:

One thing that I loved was Amana’s mention of a miracle. She said how perhaps if the foxes got together and put their powers together, they would be able to make sparkles fall from the sky like candy. Now, that is a VERRY subtle thing but it is something included in the Toei version. Kind of. In Kazahana, which was basically a 20 minute version of the last five minutes of the last episode, there is a thing where Amana is talking with Makoto’s spirit on the hill. They play together and Makoto says how she is fine because as a spirit, being dead, she is able to watch over Yuuichi. Then she disappears, saying to Amano she wants to play again, causing sparkles to fall from the sky. These sparkles go all around the world because even Mai and Sayuri who are in France see them.

In a sense of “calculus terminology”, as all Makoto’s hopes and dreams spawn towards infinity, the limit of her destiny will only arrive at zero :( that’s the SAD. The beauty is that her goals were accomplished, and I hope Yuuichi holds this with him. (wow i just had deja-vu of typing something similar before) thats creepy.
