After hearing Yasuna’s revelation, Hazumu tries to confront Tomori about their relationship although she is being stubborn due to her being rejected prior.

Impressions:
I absolutely loved the opening. They basically kept the old OP except the used the fully extended song and filled in the rest of the time with what I thought were great clips that showed some of the more important scenes from the series thus far. Although I suppose it would have a little less of an effect if you were to watch this 13th episode closer to the 12th instead of waiting nearly half a year or more almost.
I think they showed all of the characters extremely well. I was a bit afraid that they would cast aside some of the main characters but for the most part it seemed like they showed some quirks of theirs that really summarize what there characters were like. I loved Ayuki using the metaphor of a “stage” again when she was talking to Yasuna. Ayuki was a cool side character because of the wisdom she showed so I like that they didn’t completely toss her aside or anything.
Final Words:
This really brought back a lot of memories. Kashimashi was one of the first shows I started to blog. I’ve stated this before but before I started blogging I had never watched an anime series on an episode a week basis. I usually marathoned a show or spread a single series over about a week. That makes Kashimashi one of the first shows that I actually had to wait in anticipation for. I can also say that blogging has defiantly gotten me thinking about the shows a bit more, as when I write the impressions it organizes my thoughts and theories more then if I hadn’t wrote anything at all. The first thing that popped is the OP. It’s not my favorite OP or anything but just hearing it was so cool because it’s been a while since I heard it and again it brought back some memories.
This episode truly is a completely different ending, which is what I really was looking forward to. Overall the one thing that I felt needed changing about he series was the ending. I’m looking at what I wrote for episode 12 and basically I said that Hazumu should have chosen Tomori. There is this exactly quote I wrote, “Asuna, although caring for Hazumu and all I think really got her support mostly because she “needed” Hazumu which I didn’t exactly feel was right.” That is the exact point made in this episode about the end. Although Yasuna still loves Hazumu I think, she was just realizing on her which is why I think Tomori was a better choice.
Although the ending was done pretty nice if 12 was the ending, the overall choice wasn’t right. They did do a wonderful job last episode “ending” it with Tomori by her saying how the Hazumu of the past will always belong to her. That part was beautiful and I still remember it as being a touching scene. So not to say that the series sucked without the episode, but I think, although my judgment is probably a little clouded because I wanted this, was overall better. Although, you can’t really say it that way because it’s not like this episode takes the place of 12, it really is the ending and a 13th episode more then it is an OVA.
Overall I think I enjoy the series a little bit more because of this ending. Even without it though it was great, but I guess I need to stoop seeing this as an alternative ending because it really is a 13th final episode. In other words the ending is great, and the drama they showed in the 12th was really well placed I think, not completely ruining things for the ending they showed here.
In terms of story, I agree that the OVA ending is a much better choice. In ep 12 it seems that Hazumu’s choice was based heavily on the guilt he felt for abandoning Yasuna in the time where she needed him the most. Yasuna scores some serious points for realizing that although she loves Hazumu, if she were to stay with him, she would become dependent and that would defeat the whole purpose of Hazumu’s love for her in the first place.
I think Hazumu was a little quick to jump back to Tomari, but it’s understandable, you don’t want to lose a loved one. Though the way it was portrayed, it seemed like he was betraying Yasuna.
The actual episode was wrought with poorly done cliche though, the whole Christmas miracle failed to entertain me. I loved the bit at the end with the glass stairs up to the cathedral, but the marriage and the following reindeer ride killed any emotional impact that was built up in the minutes before.
So, great ending, not so great episode XD
I also like this anime after what you said about episode 13 i also want to watch it but where u get it from
I wonder if I’m the only one who actually loved the finale for the TV version. Anyway this special episode looks like it has some great art so I’ll give it a shot, I just hope it doesn’t ruin my positive view on the whole series.
