Kanon Remake - 06

Yuuichi goes with Ayu to see a movie which brings up more memories of their past, while Yuuichi is still dealing with Makoto at home.

Impressions:

This seemed to be a mostly Ayu centered episode. Even though they did have the small it with Makoto and finding a job, and Mai telling Yuuichi again to stay with Makoto for the most part we got some more development into Ayu’s past and how she was connected with Yuuichi. I loved the bit at the movie with Ayu, horrified she was the entire time. The part at the end of the movie when Yuuichi was with her in the coffee shop. The way he yelled and scared her was just absolutely hilarious.

Speaking of things Yuuichi did his personality is definitely getting very interesting to watch. I love his attitude was even like it is in the present then it was in the past. The way Ayu was about to say something and he said, “What? A love confession already?” He’s got to be like 10 yet he says awesome things in the spur of the moment.

Spoilers:

The foreshadowing about Ayu was HUGE in this episode. The whole thing with Akiko just screamed about Ayu’s condition. First of all Akiko being surprised at Yuuichi remembering Ayu, because he remembers her but not what happened to her obviously. Then her comment about “Maybe she was waiting for you all along” GOD that is like the entire focus of her arc for the entire series. That was awesome how they had that part.

They seem to be putting a lot of focus on Makoto a bit earlier then in the previous series. Already from the preview they have the whole episode with the cat and where Makoto runs away. That was a pretty important episode because it was about how Makoto didn’t belong but now does. Although they didn’t exactly state her being a fox in that episode it still gave some good character development. Even without that, the whole thing with Mai talking about how Makoto needs Yuuichi is surprising, because it is hinting at some kind of bigger deal with Makoto.

Wow, I have to remember not to read the spoilers. I could feel the hints when Yuuichi was wondering about Ayu’s places of departure and return. Little mystery girl. For some reason, I thought she would be one of those “need to be in before a certain hour” but I’m glad it isnt that simple.

I’m warming up to this version of Kanon now. I find myself being entertained and I get a few smiles out of the show. The only copmplaints I guess I would have are that Yuiichi sometimes acts like a total nerd, but something about him makes him likable. Also this series doesn’t get me emotionally like the old one did (I think its one of the few shows anime or american that has made me tear up) but it’s still early so I shouldn’t whine about that. Maybe this will be like Da Capo and give us “meh” stuff at first but really hit us hard with the final half.
