Kanon Remake - 05

Yuuichi tries to figure out what the deal is with Mai, the girl who was in school late at night who calls herself a Demon Hunter.

Impressions:

There seemed to be a lot of focus on Makoto, even though they started off with the rest of the cliffhanger of Mai. Although they did give Mai a bit more of an introduction, I think they did a great job showing her personality. The way Yuuichi said he felt victorious for making her speak was hilarious. Their whole lunch I thought was done really well, Sayuri was also a very interesting character and I just hope they will show more of her, as in the first series she didn’t get much attention at all.

This episode in whole definitely seemed to have a lot more comedy bits. The whole magazine thing was hilarious. They had the same bit in the old series, although done slightly different because Yuuichi and Nayuki were waiting outside of the store she was in and we actually saw her trying to buy it, it was still just as funny here. I also loved how they made reference to Akiko’s special jam.

Spoilers:

One thing I’m a bit confused and surprised about is that they didn’t’ actually show any demons. In the first series they showed the demons, Yuuichi saw them too and even though Mai was creating them, they were more then just things she imagined, they caused damage themselves. The damage is another part of this, that in the first series and I think in the game and everything that there was a lot of broken glass. The demons or Mai, well its kind of the same thing, caused a lot of glass to be broken and because of that there was a big focus on how people viewed Mai as a delinquent. So far they have yet to show that so I just wonder where they are going with the Mai arc.

Ok, they never really said this before but does Mai know that Makoto is a fox? They showed it in the last series, the bit with Mai basically petting Makoto and treating her like a small innocent animal or something like that. Then in the preview she talked about Makoto, or “she’ which is likely referring to Makoto, will need Yuuichi. Are they moving the Makoto arc up a bit and is Mai referring to that and that she is going to disappear? That’s the oly thing I could think of that Mai meant when she told him to be kind to her. That because of her powers or whoever she could sense something and knew she was going to go away.

Speaking of the whole fox thing, I loved how they hinted at her being a fox more. I’m sure a lot of these things would just blow past people who haven’t seen the original, but it was really cool knowing Makoto’s identity. The one thing where Makoto kind of liked her hand like a fox hinted at it, and then the fact that Yuichi was teasing her saying that she was no different then an animal.

KyoAni is following the game closely, and in the game, Yuuichi never saw what Mai slashed in his first encounter with the Demons. As Mai warms up more to Yuuichi, he will begin to see what she sees.

    Cheers.

    oh the spoilers… I don’t read them ^^
Very solid episode, comedy plus some mystery and a lot of flirting. Do the girls even know how hard Yuuichi is flirting? hmmm, he better not let Naiyuchi or Kaori see him in the act, they’d know it for sure.

I’m starting to like Kyuuichi less and less with each passing episode…

But maybe that’s the point? Maybe the makers decided to make him unlikeable so that I would be able to enjoy seeing him suffer. Seems kind of cruel, though - even if he deserves it.

I just can’t believe that everyone is letting him get away with this. The guy needs to receive his comeuppance, and fast. He’s looking more and more like a blend of Kyon and Suzumiya Haruihi - sarcasm mixed with a dose of sadism.
