Impressions:
The whole flashback in this episode I think did a great job of explaining the situation of things. It basically said how Hiro only went too Japan for the funeral really, that Karada wasn’t his real sister but realized she thought of him as a brother and how he couldn’t leave her alone. Shouko and Hiro seemed to be really in love and a good match, and I agree with his choice a bit in staying with Karada. Even if she isn’t a blood related sister, she was still taken in by his family, vied Hiro as a brother, and would have been left all alone. However I’m still a bit intrigued by how Hiro didn’t mention in the letter he sent to Shouko about his sister and his reasons, as they really did seem to be in love.
In other words, Shouko and Hiro seemed really in love, and although I agree with not wanting to leave a little girl who viewed him as a brother and make her an orphan, I also think it was a lot more tragic now giving the relationship that Shouko and Hiro have.
I think that although Shouko said again in this episode that she didn’t wish to be a child, I think that there has to be a reason for her turning into a kid. Perhaps she didn’t directly wish or think she wanted to be a kid, but perhaps something along the lines of wanting to be like Karada and get Hiro’s attention, or to start over. I found it interesting how she wanted to spend time with Hiro when he came over at first, offering him food although she didn’t have to and talking to him when she could have avoided spending time with him.
I was a bit surprised by the humor they had in this episode. Although for the most part there is still a serious focus about the relationships and reasons for Hiro’s actions and so forth, I think the comedy in this episode did a nice job of lightening things up a bit, without turning it completely from the direction it was heading. I loved how Shouko was acting like an adult in the store when they were buying the bed and the salesman just looked at her weird, and how Karada had to keep asking Shouko things.
Shouko’s super cute! I’m glad you brought up the letter, that’s a good point. Hiro is difficult to understand at this point, and we never see his eyes, so that just makes it worse :/
