This section is small and just details the part of G.U. that overlaps Roots, about Haseo’s rise to power and his fateful encounter, as well as my first impressions of the game.

(I don’t really know how to title these as there are no clear defined chapters lik in the prvious games I posted about so I’m just going to break them up how I feel like and label them as they were episodes)

Summary:

• Haseo logs in and creates his character, and then when he first appears in Mac Anu he is greeted by two players. He goes out to a field with them and eventually gets to the end of their mission when they reveal themselves as PKers. They end up killing him and as they stand over his body taunting him, Ovan appears and shoots both of them, then heals Haseo.
• Eight months later, Haseo is watching Bordeaux and her group of PKers kill a couple of players. He just kind of smiles and heads down there, defeating all of them. He asks Bordeaux if she knows Tri Edge, she just says that old story is ridiculous and Haseo kills her.
• Haseo heads back to Mac Anu where he is stopped by Sakaki and Atoli. Sakaki says how he has heard of him, and starts giving him a lecture on how PKKers are no different then PKers. Atoli tells him to listen when he is about to just walk away, Haseo stunned how much she looks like Shino. He then gets a message to meet someplace and sees Ovan in the distance, so runs off leaving Sakaki and Atoli.
• Haseo meets up with Ovan and yells at him asking what he has been doing for the past six months. He says how he has been busy, he was growing a seed to see what it was, which is a metaphor. He then says how Tri Edge will be back at Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground.
• Haseo heads there and remembers about him and Shino, her talking about the Aura statue. Just then Tri Edge appears and Haseo fights him and looses, getting data drained.

Impressions:

Ok, the voices aren’t the best, but they aren’t bad. I’ usually very against dubs and especially from hearing Roots and the japans voices from the trailers, I had gotten really used to them. I don’t think that it is so much a problem of the voices being bad, just that I’m used to something else. For the most part they are ok. However I still think Atoli’s voice is very annoying, it may just be the one scene I heard it in but it defiantly wasn’t one of my favorites. I think Sakaki’s voice was great, go Balmung!

I did have a slight problem with the English version. I’m not going to get into the whole class name change or anything like that, but I hated how they had Sakaki’s name pronounced. In all the trailers I heard, and just from what I though in seeing the name I would have thought that his name is pronounced Sak-ack-ey. That is pretty much what it sounded like in the trailers; however he himself pronounced his name Sa-cock-ey which just seemed wrong. The other pronunciation is much better.

The music so far is great in this. In all the scenes I thought that it is one of the best things. .hack has always had great music and they defiantly kept that in this game and I’ve only played to the beginning. They seemed to have a kind of remix of the music in the scene where Haseo went to the cathedral. Yasashii Ryoute was a bit tweaked then I normally heard it but it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I think the seed thing that Ovan talked about has to do with the AIDA thing and his arm. He said how it was such a small seed and he wanted to see what it was, so he grew it. I think that’s referring to him kind of having AIDA in him like a seed so he grew the AIDA to find out what it really was.

OMG they used the Delta Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground keywords! Those are the same keywords in previous games that led to the cathedral. Although he called the cathedral something different. In Roots it used to be Grima Lowe but I don’t care, the keywords same and that’s cool. I actually don’t think that the cathedral had an actual name in the first four games, I just remember the keywords delta hidden forbidden holy ground. They never mentioned the keywords in Roots so I’m very happy to see them here.

One thing that I LOVE about this game so far is the things like the message boards. The news stuff isn’t as interesting I don’t thin, especially the stuff that doesn’t deal with the game or CC Corp. I don’t really care about a fictional finishing date for the space station. But the message boards are so cool. I loved how on one of them someone posted their drawing of a PKKer in black and red who saved them. It was obviously Haseo and someone even mentioned that and I think that’s really cool. I also loved the mention of things like people asking hat happened to TaN and what the Twilight Brigade was. Those things interest me more because of Roots but they are really cool. Also on the “official forms’ there were things like a list of people in this one guild which include Seisaku and Hedeiyo, that’s such a small detail too but really cool.
